Whatever happened to the qm guy converting his pool to a reef pool? I remember seeing some pictures on a thread a number of months ago. I tried searching on the other forum as well and cant find it. What happened? Is he still building it? I would love to see an update!

Do you know what it would cost JUST in salt? Around $10k to fill it up the first time. Would be a fun project though.

He had all kinds of haters on that thread so be closed it down. It looked like an incredible build and I was looking forward to seeing it come along. Well I hope he gets it done and then shows a bunch of build pics.

I would love to see pics of this! It doesn't seem like it would be worth it. Even if you could keep the inhabitants alive & happy, you'd only be able to see them from the surface, right? I, for one, don't see why you'd want that....
Is this guy local?

Yeah la somewhere. The setup has pretty sweet. I think he was gonna have a side view area dug in as well. It was gonna be a full blown reef tank.

Hmmm, yeah hadn't thought of that but a very interesting & good question. I guess it wasn't an indoor pool...

I dont think that rain would affect the salinity that much. It's a huge amount of water and it doesn't rain that much in so cal. I would be more concerned with impurities getting in the pool... but it's still an awesome idea.

I think he had something like a couple 300 gal salt tanks that he could use to do a WC if need be due to rain or other issues. He also had these massive surge tanks and he converted the spa into a refugium.

Ask Dave from Encino if rain messes with salinity. He had three frag tanks out side connected to a system that was some where around 1400 gallons. He lost every thing, just about, during an el neno year.

He still have a big bin on his back yard last time I was there.

Regarding the guy
I am sure they can deliver a catalina water to his house
He was a former quality marine employee or something according to Kelly Woo
His equipment is high end and it was well plan but still unsustainable in my opinion long term.
Unless he charge admission
