What kind of worm is this?

I found this at night. It is least 2 feet long. I have been also have had some mushrooms and other soft coral suddenly disappear.

Any suggestions on what this (bad or good worm) and what to do about it?


The tank is basically 6 feet by 2 feet by 3 feet tall. Taking all the rock would be a huge deal. I tried a homemade trap (plastic bottle/inverted top) and it did not work.

Lol. Any suggestion on the trap? Most of the time it sticks half its body out only. I have never seen the end of it.

Idk if this will work but back in an old tank when I had polyclad flatworms I use to use a glass coke bottle as a trap. I tide fishing line around the neck of the bottle then shove a piece of shrimp in the bottle. Then wait at night with lights out for the polyclads to go in the bottle to feast. Then I’d pull the bottle out by the fishing line when I saw any flatworms in the bottle.

It is way too big. It would just pull itself back I’m sure.

I had a trap in there. Nothing ever came in it. Well except hermits and snails.

What kind of coral did it eat in your tank?

Mushrooms, leathers, zoas, other softies.

Anyone that has really had a Bobbitt worm in their tank seems to be having the same experience.

I’d take the whole rock out and spray it with H2O2 until it came out.

It is at least 2 feet. I should’ve said I’ve only seen the 2 feet of it. It is as fat as my finger. And I have pretty big fingers.

I wish I knew how to post a video on here to give you a better idea of it.

I am not sure which rock it is in. Last night I say it on one side of my tank and then it went to the other side of tank. I think I will have to just break down everything to find it.

I did the same thing in a 2’ deep tank shortly after major surgery on my arm AMA

I had to lower the water level in the tank to keep it from getting above the gauntlet glove and contaminating my surgical incision, possible infection.

that thing looks nasty.
