I just dropped in salt directly into my tank and after a few days it started clouding up this resin like thing on my glass. Whats going on? When I tried to scrub it off it started scratching the glass so I stopped. Help! how do I clean the glass without scratching the glass

I was using DD H2o salt

Why did you "drop in salt" directly into your tank? Do you have it cycled with livestock? Yikes. You should always mix the salt in RODI water 24 hrs before adding to the DT...not pouring it in dry. I'm sure you have a reason though.

I just read your reply to why you did this..... it's prolly crystalized calcium, mag, etc. that built up since it wasn't pre-mixed in water. It's like a film that got all hard and crusty. That stinks. DnD is known for it's high elements.

The white resin that you are seeing is the salt, that mean you didn't mix your salt correct.the second is you never pour your salt in the tank directly, because you will end up killing your livestock.

anything I can scrape the glass with? what happens if I just wait? should I just leave it like that for a few weeks? I was going to put rocks in there to cycle as well.

I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this yet but... pouring salt into your tank without premixing with RODI is a bad idea. All of your livestock will probably die.

Bwaaaahahahaahahaahhaaaa!

Have you tried using a plastic scraper? Or metal one like for cleaning coraline off the glass? And then just run some heavy duty pumps to mix it up.

lol

@ other question:: I tried the plastic one but it's not doing the job and that's what scratched the glass. If I leave it for a month will it go away? any other options that might get rid of the resin?

sorry to hear your trouble with the new tank Ben....trying pointing the powerhead directly at the build up and wait a couple of days and see if it goes away.

As anyone mentioned you shouldn't mix salt that way?

Use a credit card or metal scraper if glass, if acrylic your screwed.

crazy. i mixed my salt right in the tank when i started and nothing. then again i sat for a half hour pushing the salt around with a powerhead. Hey try that mr clean eraser thing. the OG version. I hear it works wonders. i also hear the rinso knock off version from the 99 cent store works on glass without scratching also.

Another option is just let it stay wet and see if it'll just soften up enough to wipe away in a few days. I wouldnt wait a month to see if it comes off.

Lolz...

Wonder how many times this will be repeated in the thread... Lolz

Empty the water out and clean the tank gently...

Then refill with ALREADY PRE-MIXED SALT WATER!!!
