hey reefer08 thanks for the advice I`ll try water from a different source as you suggested. my ro/di unit is only a year old purchased from filter guys. is it possiable to have silicates coming from myro/di unit with a reading of zero.thanks for all your help sea monster

I would try a differen't water source for now but the filterguys ro/di is a quality product so I wouldn't blame the ro/di unit or its membrane. If your TDS is reading at 0 then your carbon/sediment/DI filters are still good.

:hmmmm: Anyone else have any ideas why he has a lot of algae? :hmmmm:

too much light, not enough water circulation and not enough skimming.

I have 2 x 95 by 36 by 14 tanks hooking up to 1 sump and 1 large skimmer. I had some issue with it, ph crashed, I fixed the issue and for some reason I got ton of ugly red bubble algea. I checked verything and everything was good. I increased the flow and change carbon...etc. NOTHING would help. So what I did was increase my skimmer to have it skim wet.....within 2 weeks no more red algea.

Now I need to finguer out why certain SPS would thrive in my tank for months and some just brown out within days.

Ocean pure salt caused a lot of red bubble algea....that why I switched to D&D salt then the problem is gone! Japser (Riverreefer) got into the same problem with the red bublbe algea in his tank since he was using the Ocean Pure water in the past now he just switch to D&D salt his corals seem happy.

brown algea

hey reefer08, something you said the other day about silicates, made me think about my salt water mixing container, about three mos ago I switched to a larger container which I picked up for free from a car wash location, You know the 55 gal drums that everyone uses I thought I cleaned it out well enough I even used a bottle of vinegar but this might be the problem. So I am going to mix a new batch of salt in my old container to see if it makes a difference. also I`m using a ASM g3 skimmer sorry:bawling: I didn`t respond sooner I was busy cleaning brown algea lol thanks again sea monster
