Hi all,

Still trying to figure out what I want to upgrade. Got excited when I got the wife to agree to a 65x25x30 (211gallon) tank but when I started getting quotes I'm wondering if $400 for an extra 50 gallons is really worth it.

I can get a 150gal for around $500 or go for the 211gal custom for around $900.

What would you do?

I was going to give him a call but then decided to go glass because it's harder to scratch and easier to clean which I can't stand with my current acrylic tank

imo $400 is cheap for something you really like..
60 gallons make a a lot of difference what kind of fish you can put in there.

Also how tall is too tall? I'm using LED lighting and have thought about either 24, 30, or 36 tall for the extra volume but not sure if what is too tall. Thoughts?

I agree with Lawrence. I think it'll make a big difference in the long run.

I would stay at 24" its a pain to reach in there lol and also if you can afford it go for it. Just know the equipment for a 210 will be a lot more than for a 150.

Cleaning and services is hard to reach the bottom. If you have a good set of tongs it helps but if you loose a frag under a base rock you better have your snorkel! I have 24" now and I think a 22" would be PERFECT. I am 6' and I'd be able to reach everything so easily.... Ahhh

Who did you get that quote from? $500 for a 120 sounds pretty cheap so the quality may suffer...

I would go bigger if she'll let you you'll just want to upgrade it later.

Max length I got approval for is 65" and width 25". I begged for more but she wouldn't budge

Lawrence you have access on both sides of your tank right? I am taller and I can't reach the back of my 4 x 2 x 2 without getting my armpits wet and putting extra pressure on my bracing... also a pain in the butt to get the coraline back there

I'm 6'4" with a 24" tall tank w/ 5" of sand and I hate it. My stand is 44" tall though. My next tank will be 18-20" tall.

Honey, I told the guy for 65x25x30 but he made a mistake and made a 65x30x25. He gave me a $100 discount for that mistake. Are you ok with that? please be OK with that because I feel really bad for the guy having to toss this tank and I actually love that configuration!
