Mine laid eggs last year, it was a first time experience and I learned a lot (and spent a lot). I got one to live 3 weeks+ before he died, I had 10, then 5, then 3, then 1. I'd do it again with what I learned I think I'd get further. Rotifiers is the hard part, the rest is about having extra equipment to raise them. I don't have any kids, but it almost felt like raising a kid. I had a 30 gallon that I put 10 gallons of water in and blacked out, then added more water (and remove some), repeat, repeat, to keep the amonina down and keep addiding rotifiers. I screwed up on the transition to baby brine because I waited to look. It was cool to see his strips form.
If you can afford the time and money do it!!!
