Ok i got home from work and stuck my hand in and zap! Ouch! Anyone have a voltmeter close by that i can use? The shock was bad enough to hurt but not so much that i wasnt curious enough to try it again lol. I wont do it again though... Is this hurting the fish like it hurts me? If so i need to stop this quick and find whatever it is thats failing... Im only free sunday if anyone can help thatd be great.

Everyone should have a ground probe on their tank.. safety first people...

Just run over to autozone or kragens and pick up a dvom. Even radioshack has them.

Wow that sucks Iain. Go to Harbor Freight and get a voltage sensor. Super cheap and you don't have to figure it out the hard way.
Ooouchh!! +1^^^^^ i did the same thing bought one with a coupon for like 4$ and found out a old rio600 was the culprit.

If it were me and I didn't have a volt meter at the time, I would've unplugged the known offenders one at a time and been a human meter again until finding it. You said it didn't hurt bad enough that you didn't want to try it again... at least try the heater and any old Rios. I just wouldn't want to knowing let that continue in my tank until I was able to get a meter to test with.

Agreed... best to have one you can use in the future if needed. And they're cheap.

Yeah didn't you just get a new skimmer pump? Maybe try unplugging that see if that might be the problem.

My swc motor was leaking a good amount of juice. Not as much as a broken heater 300 watt heater, that one actually hurt.
