African Blue Hornets look like what OCreefmaster was selling two colonies of. They are more solid blue with a yellow ring.
Yeah, true blue hornets have an alternating yellow and blue skirt, same with the purple and red hornets.
Based on another thread, yours look identical to what that guy called bumblebees... just another zoa morph that looks similar. There are millions of morphs out there.
Sucks if he sold them to you as such, although they are nice so I will trade you if you want.
Cody is correct. Those are African Blue Hornets. Gumbii is also right as they also go by African Blue Steel. I have two colonies of them, and african hornets are notorious for melting, so becareful. I have found that the love high light and high flow. When they are not in either they become unhappy and close up. As for the african blue hornet vs true blue hornet... Cody is also correct, all true hornets have alternating skirts. I had both unfortunately I didn't take a picture, you can just google the two or check on zoaid.com and they have pictures of both.
When I got these I did a little research on them and most people who don't know what they are sell them as blue hornets, though they are technically not lying they need to make sure and say that they are the africanized ones and not actual True blue hornets. I also found that the ones that were imported from africa, actually melt away pretty much everytime... The ones that you want are the cultured african blue hornets, these were imported a long time ago and after fragging and growing out so many times they have lost there melting tendency. I have cultured african blue hornets and I have had them for over a year and a half.
Either way at least you know what they are now!...
Here is the real deal Cultured African Blue Hornets...
