So my berghia nudis were killing it, my tank was nearly aiptasia free. I added my fish back to the system and now I see them popping back up. I'm assuming my rhomboid wrasse took them out unfortunately. I thought they'd be fine since I could only find them really late at night after lights out, but this rhomboid doesn't appear to sleep! I haven't had the best of luck with aiptasia-x so far. So i'm thinking of looking into a fish.

I'm considering adding either a copperband butterfly or a filefish to hopefully help with the control. I know the CBB is hit or miss with actually eating the aiptasia and both are a risk in a reef tank. I prefer the look of a CBB over the filefish that's for sure. Seems the filefish may be more of a guarantee for helping with aiptasia. Most of the tank mates land in the friendly category minus the kole tang. I think I may have a better chance getting the CBB readily accessable food later on by copying Emac's DYI device he posted a while back. A plus for the filefish is being able to buy a captive bred specimen. I've lost 2 CBBs in the past, I believe by not QT'in them and getting them accepting prepped foods before entering the display, so it'd be nice to get something used to tank life already.

I'd like any input/experience from those who have successfully cared for one (or both) in a reef tank. My tank is 100G 48x24x20. No matter which fish I choose, it will be put through QT and hopefully except some type of frozen before entering the display. My QT is copper for 4 weeks, prazi treatment or two after.

Thanks for any input.

I've tried 2 file fish and both passed in my 300. I have way to much flow and the guy couldn't swim.
I've successfully kept 2 CBB to last longer then a year and feed on them buggers
I vote cbb

Peppermint shrimp worked for me...

Man those mofos were always in my sump the next morning. I'd fish them out and put them back in the tank and again the next morning in the sump.

That's my experience as well with the peppermint shrimp. I've heard it's only the black tailed ones that really bother lps but I don't buy it.

I'm mostly focused on sps. I never even thought about flow being an issue. That may be the deal breaker.
Emac909 I've got a 4" maxima clam. If I go with the CBB you think I'll need to pull it? I've read if they are large enough it might be okay.

Thanks for the offer. If I decide to go with the Filefish I'll shoot you a PM for sure.

I'm leaning towards a copperband for now.

I do the hot water method. Problem is if they are up against a coral it can fry the coral. Maybe if i had an actual syringe with a small needle instead of a baster i could control where the boiling water dispersed. But all in all it does the job.

I used Cg coral glue to muffle them all up. My tank is aiptasia free now. If a fish was needed, I would go for a filefish. It's a beautiful and unusual looking fish in my opinion.
