I'm about to upgrade to a 180-gallon tank and of course now I have to make the decision glass or acrylic. I think if I lived anywhere else in the country I would easily go with the less expensive and harder to scratch glass. But the fact is we live in So Cal and we have earthquakes. If we had a 7.0 or so I am assuming the acrylic would have a better chance than glass. What do you guys think and what do you have? Thanks.

But is starfire as durable as acrylic? If live rock came crashing down would it crack easier than acrylic, just like normal glass would?

I would think even easier.
But either way you should design your rock scape to really sturdy
My acrylic, all of my rocks are tied to a PVC structure, I can get in there and scrub them down and never worry about anything falling

I am concerned about the scratches. Did you get more on the inside or outside of the tank?

i will be selling my 180g with stand and canopy in the next month if you are interested. The tank is not even a year old yet. i am upgrading and moving to a new house so i will be setting up a new tank. The tank is acrylic and come with acrylic lids to cover the top to stop jumpint fish.

The tank is a penninsula style which means its a room divider.

I would be very concerned having a glass 180 in California. With that said, my kids have scratched my acrylic tank trying to be nice and clean the tank while I was gone. Now I have scratches on the front :hmpf: It's a trade off, but I have less wories when we do get earthquakes.
