There are more than a couple "normal guys" making fish runs these days. You definitely dont have to go anywhere near a retail store these days to get ANYTHING you want for your aquarium.

Jason - Where on David reply thread that stated we are going strong, he simply stated we are the only left. Trust me, we are not going strong matter we just SOLD our business to our family member; my wife and I are just working there.

I think only Jason from aquarium in motion 1 is making the killing now.
Ok....I was meaning to say that there are more stores out there. We may be just a little harder to find now. But I do have to say business has been good for us...as it has for you since they can afford to pay you to work LOL.

Anyways back to the topic I wish the best for Shawn and his family and hope they have somthing in the wings waiting for them.

This is where you are wrong, I don't need the fish store for survive, I have better job that pay much more. The fish store is for fun and addiction. Never take a penny from the store and will never do.

My wife and I are there to help out, we work for free. The reason why we stay in business because we work hard. Not because we are doing good, but because we work hard, we work for free and down the road it will pays off. Asian family we stay close together.

Back to the topic, good luck to you shawn.

All that I can say is there are a few people in this hobby that think that fish stores are over priced. I can say I have offered good size pieces of coral for the same price, if not lower than alot of people are selling frags for. And for as dry goods my prices are not much different for what you find on the internet, plus I dont charge for shipping. I am probably one of the few stores that sell stuff cheaper than the average shop, and I was very honest with my customers. Last thing I have to say is SUPPORT OUR LFS or there is going to be more stores losing to the internet, for one day when you want to go buy a fish or anything for your tank and the store is not there, go home and look in the mirror ask yourself why the store is not there!

The problem is it takes retail pricing to keep a retail store open. With 90% of the manufacturers bowing down to the mega mail order houses when it comes to pricing it's much harder to make the required profit to stay afloat. Sure, you can at least come close to price matching on each individual item but the gross profit on those accumulated sales don't equate to the needed net profit to stay afloat. Now in some cases you need to sell 3-4 items instead of the one to obtain the same net. With the limited audience a LFS has that's not really possible.

Everyone looks out for their own pocket... Hobbiest and suppiers a like.... No point in pointing finger. It's no different when a retailer sales stuff at near wholesale just to make a sale. It's sucks but no one group is responsibly for the direction this industry is moving.

Kevin - If I were you I would call the suppliers and complain; that if you haven't done so already. If you need their contact information let me know.

We are having a 1 year aniversary sale coming up...stay tune.

one positive of all the fish tanks tied together is a lot less demand for wild corals.

Every supplier sings the same songs and dance the same dance. They use it as a sales pitch to get you to stock there stuff. I've been in the game long enough to know they couldn't care less.

I do but not alot of high end stuff. I have Brightwell products, pc bulbs, fish food (frozen and flake, pellet), some uv sterilizers, test kits, alot of reptile stuff, reptiles, dog food, alot of odds and ends. If you are looking for something in general give me a call. I have alot of freshwater fish, and quite a few snakes. Thank you guys, for your support.
