Just contacted John at Advanced Acrylics regarding doing a group buy for ATO reservoirs. Hopefully we can get enough buyers to do this. Need at least +6 buyers. Once orders are paid, I was told to give 1 week to build them. His shop is in Ontario for pick up or I can pick up for anyone in Temecula/San Diego areas. Also he said he can ship anywhere in California for additional $20-30 depending on size (He said $30 shipping for 6"L x 24"W x 24"H, then $20 shipping for the smaller sizes).

There was a previous group buy a little over a year ago that was built with 1/4" thick acrylic but he recommends 3/8" for sturdiness. But if you want 1/4", he'll build it. Well here's the pricing list.....

***3/8" Thick. CLEAR acrylic. BLACK bottom and flip top. (Add extra $10 if you want all black with viewing window)
- 6.5gallon 6x16x16 = $90
- 10gallon 6x20x20 = $120
- 15gallon 6x24x24 = $160

***1/4" Thick. Black acrylic with viewing window.
- 5gallon 5x16x16 = $75
- 10gallon 6x20x20 = $100
- 15gallon 6x24x24 = $140

***UPDATED LIST OF BUYERS
Here's the list so far of possible buyers...

1) KarL
2) Reefes Pieces - 3/8" all black acrylic w/viewing panel. 10gallon 6x20x20.
3) Confuse - 3/8" all black acrylic w/viewing panel. 10gallon 6x20x20
4) Brizhound - 3/8" all black acrylic w/viewing panel. 15 gallon 6x24x24
5) Watchguy123 - 5 gallon and 10 gallon in black acrylic
Maybe
5) Justin
6) Bad Santa - sump?
7) LL Cool Reef - sump and ato?

Would it be possible to make some kind of handle to transport a 5g reservoir? I gotta carry my current jugs from the bathtub to my closet. I think a 10g would be a little problematic.

Prob best to make a nice wooden cradle with the handle on it. Or at least a wooden base with rope to go over the ATO or something like that. I just wouldn't trust bonded acrylic for that kind of constant handling. Prob will eventually lead to a failure. Would look cool as heck though to have a nice 1" acrylic rod as a handle

What did you have in mind? A reservoir filled with water would be too heavy for a handle in my opinion. Mosof people have the reservoir set up under or next to tank. Then transfer water into the reservoir with some sort of water jug.

I have the 6 gal from the previous GB and 1/4 was plenty strong. 1/4 should be adequate too for the bigger sizes as long as your not moving them around.

Well, I currently use 5g jugs to store and supply my RO/DI to my tank, so I end up carrying those jugs out to my closet from the bathroom. I've just been concerned with it leeching phosphates. I suppose that if I get a 10g resevior, I could use the two jugs to simply transport the water. Lemmie do a little more brainstorming...

P.S. I know John's customer service has been in question in the past and many people suggest paying him AFTER they receive their goods, so how do you guys feel about his past reputation in relation to his group buy?

I've purchased many tanks, sumps, and a couple other acrylic projects from him. I've always been happy with the quality of the acrylic work done and I personally haven't had any issues regarding customer service.

i might be wrong but if you are carrying the reservoir around you are defeating the purpose of the reservoir. im interested in the group buy but dont know for sure yet.

Kinda sorta. I use 5g jugs as reservoirs and I gotta refill em by taking them to the bathroom and making RO/DI water. Five gallons last me about a week in my 50g cube. So if I get a 10g reservoir, then I can probably live with emptying 2 5 gallon jugs in it every two weeks.

Ok. I'm down for one. I just need the hole for the hose the size of vinyl tubing. That's the only mod I'd ask.

3/8" thick 10gallon 6x20x20 = $120 +$10 all black with viewing window = $130 total

Ok sounds good.

If we can get enough to qualify for the group buy. I'm thinking everyone could just go ahead and send AA a direct paypal payment or cash if you're nearby.
