Hey guys I have had a problem with green hair algae for a while now, pulling out hand fulls every other day! I recently bought a yellow tang to try and help control the problem(hasnt done much yet). All i have been hearing is to either get hermits and turbos or get ready to spend hours brushing my rocks clean. Anyone have any suggestions??

Thanks

No! fish are only good to keep control of algae, not to get rid of it! Turbos will eat it fast! I would use epoxy to cement corals to rock so you wont have your coral get knocked over!
Get 1 turbo for every 10 gallons!

I had a hair algae problem for the last few months. I cut back on feeding and lighting. I added GFO, chaeto, and a phosphate reactor. Also added turbos and blue leg hermits but the hair algae continued. I went to my local LFS and he suggested i try adding Phosphate Solution by Precision Solutions. He said I needed to get the phosphate levels down and then the GFO, chaeto, and phosphate reactor would maintain the lower levels. He was right I used it to bring the levels down and the hair algae started disappearing. I then used a small tooth brush on the remaining hair algae and it is all gone. I am not proposing the Phosphate Solution as a cure all but in combination with the other reducers I put in place it got me over the hump of getting rid of the hair algae.

Just a heads up. The liquid phosphate binders will lower your alk and remove your trace elements. Another to look at is Brightwell Aquatics Phosphate E. The liquid binders do work very well.

I don't know how often your lights are on as well as how often you feed. I had a huge GHA problem earlier this year and have cut down on the feedings to twice a week and the algae has slowed a ton. I have also added a bunch of hermits as well as scarlet hermits and emerald crabs. They have cleared off all the rocks of GHA and now I need to scrub the rest off of the hard to reach areas on the glass.
