Hey all,
Anyone have a serious amount of stomatellas and asterinas in their tank? You do? You should totally give me some.

Some people regard these as pests (I don't know why but whatevs)...if that's you I'll take as many as you can give me. I started my tank with all dead rock so no hitchhikers made it into the tank. I don't want to buy more rock to seed the tank so this is why I ask.

I don't think they eat healthy zoas. I've had them for years and always had lots of polyps and they only go for algae or zoas that are on their way out... I know there are differing accounts online.

Yea listen to these oxymorons..they know what they speak of. As I told you via text, I had a past tank over run with asterinas and those zoas that died werent eaten but pestered to where they didnt want to open and eventually withered away. Then I brought in a harly and he mowed them all down in a week.

Key word..."after", Lol... I'd definitely appreciate it!

I would avoid the asterinas they become plagues really easily... stomatellas are really cool critters.
I've got 99 problems but asterinas ain't one.

Asterinas can take over and start eating your ZOA's.
F*** a zoa!

yeah... those star will start eatting zoas. like you eatting bacon
My zoa loving days are over. If I have any it'll be because I need to fill in space but idgaf if they get eaten. And, for the record, nothing eats anything like I eat bacon!

All I see is upside...basically I like asterinas...and you're telling me that if they become a problem I get to buy a harlequin shrimp. Sooooo, what's the downside again?

I've watched them eat my ZOA's, healthy ones at that. They start at the stalk and work to the top

My old melanarus used to eat them which is why I maybe never had a "problem". So i'd suspect my wrasses will take care of it. Besides, everyone says that harlequins eradicate asterina populations in no time. So the downside so far is I get to buy a sweet looking shrimp to handle stars that eat corals idgaf about.

um the down side is you have a obligated feeder and when the star fish are done and all eaten ( which is only their feet of the starfish where then the living creature starves then rots in your tank) what are u going to do feed it chocolate chip star fish its not like its going to eat something else or survive and its defiantly not a comic book or a baseball card so trading it back in just like when purchased will add stress and over time shorten the life span considerably you should be a responsible reefer and put animals in your tank not to solve problems but to have a beautiful addition to your biotope and enjoy for the life of the Aquarium
