Oh great I hope not I had asked them if it was reef safe and they yes anyone know what this urchin is called so I can do more research freaking fish store better not lie to me

Not sure which type that is... Tuxedo? Don't mean to scare you ts just that they eat calcareous algaes, don't eat coral but they are big time bruisers that might knock frags or damage fleshy ones with their spines just moving around.

yes they eat coralline and are bulldozers. They are called a fire urchin, I believe, very cool looking creatures...

+1 on fire urchin, but i think they only go after coralline once there's no algae in the tank for them to munch on.

urchins are very cool!!

I have a tuxedo myself and it does eat coralline but i love my rocks looking white!! lol

eats coralline, hair algae and other types

thanks guys......I have a lot of other algae they can munch on hope they don't eat all the coralline though....how long have you guys have the urchin in your tank and how is it holding up having them in the reef thank so far?...any negative affects?

I would also like to hear about keeping them. I always thought they looked cool. Any special care instructions?

yikes I clean my glass front everyday so there's no algae for the urchin to munch on....also I haven't seen it moved to other spot ever since I'd put it in my tank....not sure why
