So the wife and I closed escrow early March. I got her to agree to letting me get a new tank. Now that we owners I can finaly get the tank I've always wanted. This is the room that will house the aquarium
That wall is just over 12 feet wide. What I would love to do is set up a 120x48x36 tank as a peninsula where the table is. I think it would be awesome to be in the kitchen and be able to look through the tank into the back yard.
I really want a 10 foot tank but I don't want to go less than 8 feet. Chances are that i will have to put the aquarium a long that wall. In that case a 48" wide tank would be a pain in the @$! to clean and maintain. If a coral fell, I might not be able to reach it. Trimming sps or making any frags will be a challenge as well. I'm starting to think that a 36" wide tank might be better but i don't want to go less than 30". With a tank this size I'm pretty sure i want to go with an acrylic tank.
As far as height, I've always liked 20" tall. I've had 24" tall tanks before but now I'm starting to think of going 30" or 36" tall. If i do set rhis up as a peninsula I'll be able to work the tank from all sides so maintenance should be a little easier. If it's against the wall, I'm thinking that a height of 24" or 30" might be better. Maybe even 20" tall might be best. I think my current lighting might be able to light the tank (almost), I'll just need to get another 60" Guisemann T5 hybrid fixture. As far as the LEDs, I have 3 G4 Radion pros and 2 AP700s. With those LEDs and 8 5 foot T5 bulbs, i should have lighting covered. I'd just need to get the widening kit fro the guisemann fixture.
As far as the overflow, I've considered a rear center overflow, 2 corner overflows, peninsula (just in case I can set this up as a peninsula in the future), and a coast to coast exterior peninsula overflow.
I've always bought oversized equipment so the only thing I'm planing on getting would be 2 more MP60s and the Abyzz return pump. For the skimmer im plannig on running 2. An omega 180i as an ozone reactor and either my tunzee that ive been runnin or the Alpha 300 that I have stored.
For the sump I'm thinking of having a 3 or 4 section sump that will drain in to each other. The first one will house the filter socks/ media cups that will drain into a sump that houses the skimmer(s) and the return pump. Then there will be a 3rd that is just a refugium and maby a 4th that will be a frag tank. Both of these will drain into the sump that houses the skimmer and return pump.
The stand will most likely be built into the wall or I can weld a steel stand for it and then build a cabinet around that.
So the purpose of this thread is to get your input and maybe help me consider obstacles or issues that I might not have thought of. This will most likely be the last set up I get for at least the next 10 years.
