by modifying do you mean drilling wholes in the first chamber baffles?
Yep.

Measure where u need the water level to be and drill holes. Use the largest drill bit u have. U don't want a bunch of tiny holes, They can get clogged easier.

It doesn't have to look ugly either. Use some masking tape to make a strait line, and drill the holes in a strait line.

so I came up with two options. first raise my stand. the ppl at the sps coral store said that can do it. just waiting on the price, but that would also mean I would have to drain my system and redo the plunging work. costing me anywhere between$300 to.$500 for everything or. buying a bubble magus curve 36. not sure how much that skimmer is, but I was thinking of sale my reef octopus and using that money to buy the new skimmer. it says that the curve 36 can work in ddepths of 10.5. but one thing is. the curve 36 is 1.5 inches higher than my reef octopus,b I believe I can raise it one inche out of the water.

or is it just smarter to cut wholes in my baffles?
what do you guys think.

Silly question, but is the airline for your venturi clogged? That would definitely cause an overflow on the skimmer

I wouldn't trade a super reef octopus for a bubble magus. That's just my opinion though. My SRO skimmer out performed the crapp out of both of my BM skimmers.

I don't want to either just thinking out loud. another thing that came to mind was cut the two bars on the bottom of my stand. there's two bars running across on the bottom of my stand. if I remove those two bars my sump will drop to the ground giving me more room to raise the skimmer, but wouldn't removing the two bars risk the stand strength?

I don't know about that. I just know that drilling some holes in the acrylic is super easy. Removing supports from a steel stand sounds like a bitchh
