I'm sure it was a misunderstanding. I never met Tom but I've been to the shop, actually helped his sis when she was pregnant trying to lift Tunze salt. When owning a business there's going to be negative/positive feed backs. On the boards the positive feed backs outweigh the negatives for socaltropicalfish.

jsut like I told you if you pm me and saying...hey tom my wife came in today and purchased a mp40w from father day, she paid 420. But I got it for 380 last time. Is there anyway can you give her the same discount.

You would get the discount. But your pm sound like I was cheating, ripping your wife off by not giving her the discount.

You know this is not the first time I am getting this type of pm from you and your brother. You should stop. Threaten me and insulting me is not going to work when I didn't do anythinh wrong.

Again I am not obligated to give discount especially when someone demand it.

I just dont understand the "do the right thing" comment. If I gave you a discount and then I sold you another one at regular price I might be a little ticked about your choice of words. Do you feel what you payed was more then what it should be sold for to anyone or just yourself because you already received it at a different price? No disrespect just a question.
No, he said that she is paying the same price I paid in the past.... he obviously knew that was not tre and that it was not $420 what I paid in the past or else why would he say that he knew he would be getting a PM tonight? No disrepect taken... $420 for that is market price, I know that. As mentioned before, I didn't like that my wife was taken advantage of and that he totally attacked me in his response.

Maybe you should reread my PM again I never threatened or demanded anything. And you say I insulated you....where... I refrained from that.
Tom,

I am very disappointed. My wife came in today to purchase a Vortech powerhead from your store today to give me for my first fathers day. I have already purchased one from you and my brother-in-law has purchased 2 of them from you. In total we have bought 4x MP40Ws since May. The first three of them were purchased at $380 each cash out the door. Today you charged my wife $420 cash. My wifes brother and I have spent thousands of dollars in your store between halides, reflectors, coral, powerheads, dry goods, fish food, fish etc etc. I am hoping that you simply forgot that you charged us $380 for the first 3- MP40Ws and that you will do the right thing. Please do the right thing to make this right and refund my wife $40. My brother in law and I still have many more items we need to purchase including new skimmers, tunze osmilator, vortech battery back up, radiums, more ORA ect etc. I hope you understand and make this easy.
Thanks,
Ryan

You do realize you are demanding a discount or demanding Tom to give you a refund without charging you the 15% restocking fee he charges everyone for an item you want to return because you did not get a discount I would not have received had I walked in and purchased the same item yesterday?

Show me where I asked to return the item???? Or "demanded" a discount I said please make this right and refund the $40 difference. Make it right.. meaning.... good customer service which would have kept me coming back for years.

LOL - you should see his pm when it was only 5 buck....or a dead fish.

Too much problem.
:loldude: what would be even funnier is if you knew how much money I made and still wanted to make it right for a rather small amount.:loldude: There is a lot more story and principal behind that one too. I much purchase lots of stuff from your store to come across so many issues. You obviously didn't appreciate it.

uh...should I have said require? You require him to make you happy or you will not return to his store.

REQUIRE: a: to call for as suitable or appropriate <the occasion requires formal dress> b: to demand as necessary or essential : have a compelling need for <all living beings require food>

Ahhh yes the american way, thanks for summing it up. Good thing there is a ton of other stores online and local that I have the option to bring the rest of my business to for years.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH SYNC. I will have to add my experience at SoCal to WWW, as well as that dissatisfied customer did. I noticed that was also from this month.
you mean the post was back in "by Acidshock Fri Jan 02, 2009 12:59 pm"

It was strange why not here, RC, but on WWM....and only 5 post in almost a year of joining that site.

Again - I try to make everyone happy but sorry there always a few that slipped thru the crack. Thank you for all your comments and suggetion. I will look into it.

Jan...Jun my eyes are ready for sleep. It is amazing how people will come out of the woodworks if they feel they have been taken advantage of, and they speak up. I would imagine that is why he has only 5 posts on wwm. It was probably pulled off of RC or here, or he simply didn't know about those 2-sites.

I think you should do the right thing, pay Tom back $120 you saved from the first 3- MP40Ws.

Maybe you should reread my PM again I never threatened or demanded anything. And you say I insulated you....where... I refrained from that.
Tom,

I am hoping that you simply forgot that you charged us $380 for the first 3- MP40Ws and that you will do the right thing. Please do the right thing to make this right and refund my wife $40.

I don't know the exact details of this situation, but from what I've read this general type of situation and situations like these are a huge reason why I decided to go ahead and close Saltwater Imports down in San Diego.

SoCalTropicalFish, I feel your pain. Sounds like you're suffering a lot of the problems I did by giving people discounts and the occasional hook-up... they come to expect it. And when they don't get exactly what they want all hell breaks loose. You may have gone a little overboard with the language even if this was a repeat event with this guy but then again, this doesn't appear to the first time this guy has blown a situation way out of proportion.

Ryan - I am here waiting to see the out come of your thread here and on RC. There is no offend taking from me. Like I always stated, your feedbacks, comments and suggestions are very important to us.

If it was my fault I am gladly refund your money. But I don't know why you are so upset when your wife paid retail price 420 for the pump.

Yes you got discount on the other $10,00000000 purchases but this one she paid retail price. Again I am not obligated to give discount, this is option on my part only.

Demanding and threating is not going to cut it.

Why are you disappointed, what did I do wrong that make you think I need to do the right thing ?

Today - I even paid 125 to have ecotech fix a broken vortech that my customer purchased it 18 month ago. It was out of warranty, but to help a friend out. I told them to fix it and I will pay for it. ( Jose call me when you see this, ding dong wouldn't give me your phone number )

Your $40 is not helping much in my business, I have a larger vision than taking your $40 but it was the principle of doing business. I didn't feel that what I did was wrong, I don't feel that I was wrong by sold your wife a vortech for 420.

Plus the combination of all the threaten pms I received from you and your brother in the past....I over reacted on my reply. SORRY !

But it was your pm accusing me of ripping your wife off and "doing the right thing"....I was upset and that explain for my respond.

I thank you for all the positive feedbacks, however if there is anyone out there that is not happy with our customer service. Please speak up.

Show me the "Plus the combination of all the threaten pms I received from you and your brother in the past" Also show me where I said you were "ripping off my wife" I never said that.

HERE IS A POST FROM ANOTHER EX CUSTOMER THAT POSTED A RESPONSE ON A DIFFERENT FORUM. (yes it is on RC) I have no idea who he is but sounds like a very bright individual.

"I've seen this sort of thing here before, in the So. Cal. Forum specifically, where a dishonest act and it's subsequent grief was minimized by a handful of "clique" reefers whose only real argument in defense of the dishonest act was so fundamentally flawed that it lacked any real coherent rationality.

It was commented that because reefer Ryshark's wife was sold the Vortech MP40W "at essentially the same price as MD's" that Tom's deliberate deception should be dismissed and reefer Ryshark should just "move on" and "get over it". It was also suggested that Tom suffered a momentary bout of amnesia. Selective amnesia perhaps. It was also commented that reefer Ryshark was a "lowballer". I mean, seriously, all of those comments and the ones I didn't even bother to paraphrase are so intellectually and morally bankrupt that it defies any reasonable understanding and thus precludes any real meaningful dialogue from taking place.

The issue was so simply plain, too. Tom told Ryshark's wife he was selling her the aforementioned item at the exact same price as he had previously sold it to Ryshark for. However, Tom's price that Ryshark's wife paid was $40.00 different. Not an amount to get overly excited about but hey we're all different and we all receive things differently. To each his own, right?

But instead of anyone addressing the one irrefutable issue, specifically, that Tom did in fact misrepresent his previous price, most everyone that posted a comment sidestepped the one and only issue and instead launched and waged a campaign of minimization and insults. "Get over it" suddenly became the catchphrase here. And why? Because Tom is a swell guy that quite possibly suffers from momentary bouts of amnesia but who otherwise sells his merchandise at the same prices as MD.

I don't even know Ryshark but I know of someone who went through a different but principally the same issue with Tom. And yes, Tom knew exactly what he was doing when, apparently suffering from another bout of selective amnesia, misrepresented a piece of equipment and it's price tag after having said something completely contrary previously. I was there and witnessed it personally so I know it to be true. Did I know Tom? No, I didn't. And I honestly didn't think much of it, until I came across this thread. Which is why I decided to post my reply.

As in times past with other reefers who have had the misfortune to deal with similar issues, it is the buyers fault and not the dishonest person. And trying to say otherwise is akin to beating the proverbial dead horse. And once those select few dispense their insults and advice "to get over it" they act as if their opinion is the final one, notwithstanding the "right one". And then, quite predictably, the "group think" mentality quickly takes over and before you know it the real issue becomes buried under all the needless and senseless comments and barbs.

So what is anyone reading this, anyone possessed with a reasonably independent and fair mind that is, to make of all this? Well if it were me, and it just so happens to be me, I would think that for all the replies you fellow reefers posted in response to Ryshark having to deal with Tom deliberately scamming his wife for a measly $40.00, that not one of those replies dealt with the most basic of human tenants; honesty and integrity. Yes they are in fact two different things but in fact do run parallel with one another. Integrity is defined as "doing the right thing when no one else is looking". And in this case it simply didn't happen.
