My gf has a mainly LPS dominated tank its been up for a 2 years plus, everything has been dialed in.. I picked up the xenia from Jeffery, Thanks Jeffery, but now theyre slowly withering away, i had xenias before this for about a year and then they all melted within 1 day.. any body have a clue? i hear they do better in nutrient riched water. My gf loves them i hate them. just really curious of how these things work. All the other corals are happy.

Nitrates - 0
Mg - 1300
Ca - 430
temp 78
salinity 1.024

I totally feel you. Mine have died countless times. I gave up on them. Currently trying Zoas now, but they too seem to not like my tank. I have hammer, torch, GSP, Monti's (just placed them in this weekend), Toadstool (also just placed in) but my zoas and xenias dont do well in my tank. little confused. gl on saving whats left of your Xenias

U guys are doing something wrong. Invest in some good test kits and find the problem. If u have good water parameters and the correct filtration, xenias should be multiplying not melting. I literally throw away globs of xenias. They will overrun my tank. I kill them like I kill Aptasia.

Find out why they are melting. It's not that u just have bad luck, something is wrong with ur water. Now the hard part is finding out what it is

Are you getting them freshly cut? You might have better luck getting some that are attached and established to something. I know that when I first bought 3 stocks one of them melted while the ones that attached to something right away lived.

Xenia = Weeds Gotta control them. I have many sps growing very fast in 60g total water volume. Lower the light on them and they grow fast. You must be running Metal Halides. Xenia dont do well under them

I do water changes every weekend. 10%. water parameters are in check (api test kit), although a couple weeks ago I did battle with an ammonia spike due to LR I placed in my tank, which must not have been to alive. I am thinking for my zoas, I had too high of a flow on them. they were getting blasted for 2 weeks before I decided to hide it behind some rock work. dunno what happened with my Xenias, maybe it was the same issue.

There's always the possibility that your water is too clean. For softies in general and xenia specifically, they like dirty water (dirty but within measure).

Good luck guys...I feel for you...there's so many **** possibilities in this hobby it'll make your head spin. My advice is whatever changes you want to make choose one and give it time to see if it works. Too often people will attack on all fronts and then you don't know what the root cause was. So maybe start with flow and give it a week, and then lighting and give it a week, and then feed more and give it a week, etc. I'm sure you'll get it figured out.

I think its a dif formula for dif xenia. no common law. One of the best xenia colonies I've seen is at Ali's(amazing aquariums in OC) and his is high perched under 150w MH. Could be the flow though as his isn't too much and very indirect (powerhead up top facing away from coral). . I know the only successful Xenia I've had moved far from the powerhead. Also, is it possible you're having a coral war in that tank? My last stalk lost a battle to the nem that took over the area and I know some corals like to reach out and touch someone.
