I need to sit down and drink a beer just THINKING about moving all that rock...
It was one of those situations where you look at it and you say "HA, I can move that" and you give it everything your body has and it doesn't budge at all. LMAO At one point I could bench press a hair under 400lbs and squat 750+....that didn't matter at all trust me, it wasn't going no where no matter how big or strong we THOUGHT we were lol.

just moving the larger one 6" took almost 20 minutes of 6 of us pushing and nothing happening.

On Monday, City of Compton Code enforcement drove by and saw all the rock in the driveway while I was away. They asked my guys what it was and what it was for. They gave him some attitude and told him he couldn't come to the back which Im sure upset him. He left his card and said to have the owner call him.

I called as soon as I got back and they let me I know about it. He scheduled for Tuesday to come out and said he would bring along Building and safety.

Code enforcement came the next day and checked out the back. Theyre main complaint is the driveway needs to get cleared up ASAP and gave me 10 days to do it, but said they will work with me if its not done as long as im cool with them and making progress. After that they came up front and checked out the shop and were really impressed and we got to talking and looks like I will be setting one of them up with a new set up very soon. So as for code enforcement coming out in summary: clean up the driveway, and contact him to give exact prices for a new tank LOL

Then building and safety came out. Was pretty happy to see it was the same guy that has been out here before in the past because someone (one of my competition) called about the business. Luckily everything was legally licensed and zoned for the business and he was really cool about it and gave me some pointers on avoiding any headaches in the future.

I let him know our intentions with the pond and he immediately apologized and said he strongly suggested we stop construction...

When I called them weeks ago before shovel ever met dirt, I asked for all the rules and regulations regarding the pond and they said the ONLY rules regarding a pond are: under 24", do what you want doesn't matter....over 24" deep needs a fence all the way around it. (also there was rules regarding concrete ponds but not worried about that beings my plans were rubber liner.)

Well when building and safety came out he stated the 24" rule was correct but only if the whole thing is above ground. He stated even 10" into the ground needs permits and to be cleared. He also said all drainage, water sources, electrical etc have to be permitted and dedicated specifically to the pond.

He told us we need to go to planning and development and submit blue prints and plans ASAP, and suggested stopping work....

So Tuesday night we hand drew up plans and took them to city hall. They informed us they needed to be done a certain way so we came back re did the plans with all the detail and references and went back Wednesday.

Wednesday we talked to zoning first they mainly cared about the distance from the property lines and the home. Also needed to know the height of the waterfall vs the lowest point in the pond. Zoning cleared it fairly fast after giving them that info.

Next was on to building and safety. They were a bit tougher but overall said everything looked like we could run off of existing electrical if we want, no drainage needed, and does not need to tie into a water source because it will be a closed loop system.

The only thing building and safety required was audible alarms when the two gates leading to the back yard are opened. (These were $35/ea on amazon and are used as a warning to avoid drowning of smaller children when entering the back yard)

So from Monday till Wednesday night no "work" got done but at the same time both zoning, planning, and building and safety all signed off on the project and in addition it can be added to my file for the house and added to the value because I guess they classify it as a "pool" instead of a pond.

So crazy week but now we are back to work yesterday and today.

Yesterday we only got in about 4 hours of work due to the heat, started to get dizzy and hallucinate hahaha today doesn't look like it will be much better

liner now layed (wow that was heavy and it sat in the sun all day. 35'x20' of black rubber liner mid day is no fun) we also attached the bottom drain now to the liner

hopefully I take some more pics in a few hours if I get some time and the camera doesn't melt from this heat, its currently 94 degrees outside but standing in the black liner makes it feel like 125.

yea we pulled a half day yesterday, nobody was operating at full speed and everyone was drenched in sweat. I was stumbling around dizzy and delirious. We went through about 3 gallons of water in the first 2-3 hours so decided half day was best idea before someone got sick or injured.
