Hey reefers,

All my parts came in and I'm ready to swap out my 100 gallon for my 150. Only concern I'm facing is if my tank is going to cycle again big enough to kill my fish and corals when I move the sand, live rock and water from my old tank. I don't want to be dumb about the move, but I also don't have the possibility of setting up the tank and letting it run for awhile as the tank is going in the same location as the old tank. Any suggestions?
Happy Weekend.
Cheers

I wouldn't attempt to use the old live sand. This could cause a huge nutrient spike and could kill everything. I've seen this happen to many time. I'd start fresh with a new sand bed and purchase a few bags of live sand to add on the top surface. Place plastic over the entire bed before you pour the newly mixed water on it. Pour the water into a bowl or plate so not to disturb the new bed. Take all your live rock and place it from your old tank to the new. Once this is done you should be able to place all the coral and fish into the tank. Make sure the temp and all the params are dead on. Not sure how many fish you have but if you have a lot this could add to big of load for the new tank at first. If there's a way to leave the sand and water in the old tank, I'd leave the fish in there and add back into the new tank over time slowly.

I hope this helps. Good luck

One last comment. I'm not the SPS expert but I know some of the hard to keep SPS are very sensitive to water params.... so maybe there are other reefers that can help add to whatever I might have missed here.

Get new sand and use all the live rock from your current sys. Also use as much water from the old sys as possible. Remove the corals then water without stirring the sand and you should be fine, know many people who have done this and have great success.hth

Thanks for the sound advice, seems like I have a good weekend project ahead of myself.
Jose, you have an awesome tank! I don't want to kill the frags I bought from you the other weekend haha
