Hi guys, I have a 120 gallon reef tank that has a 1 1/2 inch drain. I have it setup as a stockman for the drain. It makes a lot of noise and my wife would appreciate it if I could reduce the noise. Happy wife equals more fish tanks. I like the herbie method but I am unwilling to drill another hole in my tank and I currently have 2, 3/4 inch return lines. But I didnt want to replumb the returns I into one line and try and make the other 3/4 inch line the herbie. I just watched a video posted by Luisc3181 (thanks). In the video the guy shows how to make an overflow without drinking the tank. I am thing of trying this idea. I would use the added pipe and it would go over the back of the tank and be my herbie and the main drain pipe now would become the emergency. What do you think? Looking for ideas, pitfalls, etc. Thanks

You got any picture of your current setup? Sometimes replumbing it would make better sense. Wouldn't want to try anything and come home to a wet carpet..evil eye from the wife will leave you with many nights of restlessness..

Is this a hob overflow? Or standard overflow box? Arent you in temecula? If it's a standard overflow I can take a look at it

What noise you talking about? The water fall noise or gurgling noose is the piping? If it's waterfall, you raise the height of the drain or add some some sponge on backend of overflow box to silence waterfall noise. If it's gurgling, too much air is getting trapped in the piping. Try making a larger vent hole for air to eacape

So that runs a full syphon?
The pipe with the vavle goes to your filter sock and the othe just dumps into the sump?
Well I don't have a fuge lol since I have an really oversized skimmer I had to get rid of my refugium. But Yes, the one with the Valve goes to my filter sock and the other one goes to where my drain used to be. A bit of water comes out of there causing a full syphon.
