this is awesome hahahaha

not everyone will be happy with every store they walk into.... which is fine

i would like to help you out to fix whatever ticked you off. so next time you come back i will personally meet you their if i am not already working.
jw
Great response! Instead of an excuse you get an offer to fix it. Can't ask for more. First impressions do matter but this response would make me give it a second go.

I haven't had an issue there either, but the guy did also say that he didn't get greeted when he walked in. The initial greet is huge and I feel that every business should greet people when they walk in no matter how busy they are. It makes a big difference to the first impression. So I can see how not getting greeted when he walked in would just have the whole trip start off negatively... On the other hand.. everyone deserves a second chance =)

Everyone is entitled to his or her opinion I seriously doubt 1 bad review will make a store spiral downhill.. just because you had a pleasant experience doesnt mean it applies for everyone elses experience. Just my 2cent...

I don't understand why people get so butt hurt if they don't get a red carpet greeting from a store when they're there. Some stores are busy, they don't always have time to smile at you. Geeeez. If you need help ASK. That's why there's employees. No one is there to read your mind or hold your hand. Ain't nobody got time for that. Quit being so sensitive.

Age is a great store and the corals are very healthy. I would definitely give them another chance if your in the area... they have more dry goods than most, more fish than most... they QT and medicate any fish that come in with any issues... their hours are the best of any store that I've been too... I could go on and on about Age.

PLUS SCRK meets there the 3rd Sunday of every month and Dan the owner spends quite a bit of money to make that happen, has his employees work longer hours, etc.

If anyone is reading this come on out! You don't need to be a member to attend.

Oh and JW is one of the more talented SPS coral keepers there is at just about any store in Southern California... and the holy water he uses is a trade secret he won't tell me the ingredients I've asked.

Nobody has time to do a full greet... but an acknowledgement goes a long way... all I ask is a hello =). That literally will take one second of your time. I do it all the time so I know that it can be done. You might not care and someone else might not... but the majority of customers will appreciate that little gesture.

Dan is one of the dedicated owners and will go out of his way to take care of his customers. The store delivery my friend new leemar tank set the tank on the stand and plumb everything and off they went. Very clean work and check for leaks before they left.

But I do agree a simply hello make a world of a difference to me. The last 2 times I went to AGE both worker was behind the counter talking what they did last night. I would understand a little more if they are busy with customer or doing something work related. Most retail stores are running thin on help and trying to survive so you can't really expect them to go out of their way anymore. You just move on. I will go back there anytime I'm in the area.

I have been going to AGE for a few years now, and have had a couple of leemar tanks build thru them. Over that time yes I have had a couple bad experiences but 99% of the time I get all the attention I want/need, and great service.

And Brian,JW and Kevin are great, I've seen them countless time give good honest advise to people. Vs just trying to make the max dollar on a person with bad advice, because they know it's wrong and it will just drive people out of the hobby when the hobbyist fails. At least that's been my experience.

I agree it should be a customary formality to greet customers and ask if they need help, but for that factor alone to either make or break your experience is silly. I don't know why people need so much reassurance from others. If I need help, I'm gonna ask for it. When they refuse to help you, then that's another story. But just because nobody greeted you and didn't ask if you needed help? Come on. Maybe I'm just cold hearted and impersonal...

I agree with most of you guys, I just went there on Saturday and everything was good they answer all my questions im new in this and he was really good and helpful he keep up with me and my kids even do I thot he didn't know anything because of his age by I guess I judge a book by his cover & hook me up with stuff for my tank for free...
I think is just the way up come up to them and they way you can be respectful to them.

Edited Linsey pointed something out to me. This was not 2 years ago but more like 3 or 4. It was a few months after the sol's and Radions were on the market.

Hey Anthony. It's crazy to see how time haven't changed. I have a very similar story as your. About 2 years ago I went to AOA for a SCRK meeting. But I got there a few hours early not knowing what the traffic was going to look like from Yucaipa to signal hill. Well there were 3 guys working the store, the manager \/,a guy named jose (the dude that works for reef lounge too), and some other guy. I walked around the store for 2 hours and not one person ask if I needed help. But every time one of there regular clients walked in the door they were all over there n***s. I event stood buy a glass cabinet display filled with AI's and Radions that was 5' from the register for a half an hour and never got a hello. After an hour of being there I asked Jose if I could get some help he completely blow me off. The sad part is I walked in fully committed to buy over 2G's in ecotech equipment. I was looking to get 2 Radions and 2 mp40s. When I walked in the door I had 2 tho in cash in my pocket. I've never been back sense and ended up getting stupid deal from tony (reefermadness) a few weeks later.

Well my situation was a break it situation. For that store and your current store.
And to the guys that thing they are going to attack me for sharing my story. I said it earlier and here it is again

I like going into stores and getting left alone. if they give me a "hey" im happy they made some effort but i dont really want to be bothered yet. now a days if i go into a LFS its because its something i dont have time to get something online and wait for it. so I like to walk around and see what they have.

The guys at age hardly ever say hey to me. i dont mind. but when i used to ask a question they always answered me politely. I love this store because when i was a noob they never made me feel like I didnt know anything. Or just tried to sell me everything they could. I always felt like i learned something when i walked out of there. Dan rubbed me the wrong way once but a year later we had a good chat and i liked him after that. sometimes you have a bad experience but it doesnt mean everyone is out to get you.

a post earlier in this thread mentioned they saw a price and were told something else. guy didnt know what was on the glass, he looked it up in his price guide and told you what he believed. its happened to me, i asked if i could get it for the listed priced and they gave it to me. if they said sorry that is an old price i would have been fine with that too.
