On Friday the 15 of August I received a prototype of the maxspect riptide from coralvue.
It does like like the image above but black (sorry do to the NDA letter I signed I can not post picture or video of the unit unless it get approval from coralvue). The prototype is the same size as the small dual bar model
The water that this little pump push is crazy. I would say it can push as much water if not a little more them one ecotech mp60. Also with the pump being so slender you can put it right at the water line and it won't be an eye sore like a vortech can be. Sense the pump draws water in from under, like so
You can put the pump right under the water line (I mean right under) and not get any micro bubbles. But will give the tank great surface agitation to help oxygenate the water. For any of u old time reefers, remember the old school dump surge systems? The riptide provides the same effect as that with out the micro bubbles. I do think every peninsula tank would benefit by having a riptide pump in it.
The only down side of the prototype is the controller. The controller for the prototype is as basic as u can get. Only has 3 functions, constant, pulse, and feed. The constant is just straight on. You can control the speed of the pump in this function from 20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, and 100%. The pulse mode is a on and off type deal. Turns on for a set time then off for a set time. You also have the ability to control the speed in pulse mode. I have not yet tried the feed mode. I will try it tomorrow I have the day off.
I highly recommend anyone interested in getting a riptide for there tank come out to Yucaipa and see this one in action. Just PM me to set up a time and day.
