That may be a brain of some kind actually. Like a lobophylia ... based on the babies underneath is why I say that. I really like the orange though very nice nonetheless.

I edited my post with why I think its not a scoly. Mis id's happen all the time no matter how reputable the store is which in my eyes doesn't mean the store is doing that on purpose... its just many corals are difficult to id... but I'm no expert and I very well could be wrong.

Everyone is saying its an acan because all they are looking at is the babies on the sides. Do any of you even know how a scolymia reproduces....there is a possibility that this could be a scolymia. Everyone isn't used to seeing this so they assume its just an acan or a brain.

Looks like a scoly, looks like a lobo. Either way, you definitely have something very special on your hands. And that orange coloration with a blue ring makes it a thing of beauty, congrats.

Ahem...if I may interject here. When this coral was being imported it was determined to be a indo-pacific scolymia, but until recently it was changed to the acanthophyllia species. So when vivid sold it to you, they may have been correct in identifying it as scoly because that is what cites had it listed as, but now new research has proven it is in fact from the acanthophyllia species. This is definately not an Australian coral

Scoly's from what I saw in wholesale have the baby right next to it not under. Either way looks like you guys have the back story and that in fact it is from the Acan family. Cool piece
