Check out comment #53,
I did get this to put in empty baskets after I remove all carbon for the new bag...
Just curious...how did you manage to get gumbii to hold the poly pad if he's in Bell Gardens and you're in Ohio?

I think this is what Smite was talking about 000116013307D.jpg

As far as fish or supplies there are many reputable companies out there who do mail order such as:

And others. I know BRS and Marine Depot have many videos high lighting products and techniques.
Companies such as Live Aquaria have a good selection as well as a live arrival guarantee.

There are also many other sponsors here who would be willing to ship.
Just sounds like your LFS has been giving you not great, if not downright wrong advice. It is always fun to hit the LFS to see what they have, but in your situation, maybe online suppliers as well as the cornucopia of knowledge here at SCR is a better say to go

Keep the questions coming.

Thank u! Ya LFS doesn't carry that de nitrate or I'd have it! I've been weaning myself from LFS. Thought they'd be of help. Bought everything thus far from them until it came to my skimmer. They had 1 kind and I wasn't spending 300 not knowing a single thing so, i did some research, realized theirs wasn't top notch so, I did actually hit up marine dept. Skimmer came broke!!! But they handled it very well!
Once I get my nitrate down, I've been thinking of using them for fish. Truly because I don't want to bring anything home from lfs. How do they ship fish?! Expensive to ship? I was also thinking of purchasing plants through one of those, that help with nitrate. Since I think I'll battle it forever hehe. That way I knew I had nitrifing bacteria or what not in the tank.

Here's a step by step order in which you should go so that you have a healthy and happy tank.

1. My thoughts on you ever stepping foot in that lfs again....I'll let Smokey tell it..

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q-lv8kyYrqQ

and 2. Just ask questions here and gather as much as you can as there is vast knowledge on scr. of course, don't soak up everything from just anyone either but i think that goes without saying. lol

I can't remember which plant in particular but it's means where to help with nitrate. It fed off it maybe?
You are probably think of Chetomorpha. Cheto is usually used in a refugium, which is whole other thread. If you search "refugium" here, you will find many threads talking about the various how's and why's.
Shipping from Marine Depot, LA or anybody else is often subject to his much you spend, what you are buying etc. Fish/inverts are usually sent overnight shipping. I can almost guarantee that a company like LA will have a greater selection than any of your LFS. A really cool thing about some of the online retailers is that often they drop ship from some of the wholesalers here in SoCal. 99% of any of the fish that come from the Pacific will come to SoCal before going anywhere else.....like Ohio.. Often be cutting out the middle man, or several, the quality of the fish you would get are far superior to something you might find at your LFS. You might spend a couple of bucks more with shipping, but a live arrival, plus access to superior specimens makes that an easy decision for me at least

But I live in Southern California, the Meca of Tropical Fish stores....

Kind of an inside joke to many here at SCR. gumbii is known for his outrageous posts. He does have a ton of knowledge, and seems to be a good guy..... Especially if you like chickens.......(kind of another insider)

Ya ill look into that, thought that might not be a bad idea plus my fish would have more to swim around.

Ya I could only imagine the aquariums out there! Not much here. That's why I may have found what I'd like to do with myself. Get aquarium enthusiasts over this direction.... I have to look into biz Insurance. These people would try to sue me in a heart beat if I lost their fish!
I'll figure something out all I no is I've been sitting on my couch for hours watching this dang on cute nem, hoping he'll hang in there. I'd love to share this with everyone. The love I have for it. I'm glad I found somewhere to chat.

Yep that's the stuff I was talking about. Super porous little rocks. They'd replace the ceramic rings in your canister filter. I used a small amount in a nano reef tank while battling nitrates and it worked well. Sponges in your canister are similar to running a sock in a sump, they catch debris but you need to remove them before they break down. Some people prefer them and are willing to clean them regularly. I know I get busy and lazy so I choose to leave them out of my system and rely on water changes and a good skimmer.

I think you'd be fine to gravel vac that front section of cyano of the sand bed. Or use a fish net to remove it. Just the top layer won't hurt anything.

Smite,
Update. I did happen to find the de-nitrate at lsf while I was getting salt. They only had lil packets of it for like $5. It was good for 10 gallons. They only had 1 pack but jeeze that must be price stuff! Lfs didn't trust it but of course, I've had conflicting views on just about everything.
I cleaned out my canister filter leaving half the foam (it was just put in there last week) I only left 1 bag of new carbon (tanks clear!) I also left my biomax cubes.

I cleaned up the front sand a bit and the next day I found all these lil things!

I can't figure out what they are. They appear to be more like an algea than a worm. I asked gumbii and he suggested hydroids but said it could be anything.
When I looked them up, the pics didn't look like what I have exactly but it did say they like brine shrimp. I started feeding with lil brine last week....

All in all, I did a 25 gal change yesterday along with sucking up 90% of blue green and red cyano. I also bought 2 nice pieces of rock from lfs I put in with new water. Nem finally moved! ;) I was starting to wonder. I no normally you don't want that to happen but, in my situation, I have nothing he can hurt except himself from moving around. I bought him last week and he hasn't moved. I was worried.

I have done some small sugar dosing to help my nitrate. As of this morning my no3 is down from 80 ppm to about 50 or 60.

Everything going good ;)
