My name is Rudy I stay in Fullerton CA I'm starting a 60gal. its my first saltwater tank. I have done fresh water for 5yrs. I don't having anything in it so far but the water and sand. I'm still looking around for a good shop out there, which is one of the few reasoms I'm here. I'm running an emeperor 400 with a pump and a H.O.B magnum. I still need some lighting tho.
If anybody has any suggestions, tips or stores around north oc that u recommend let me know.

3, just got a 27G Cube in the process of setting it up as a SPS reef. with maybe a pair of clowns...
4, 15+ years my last tank was 135gal Oceanic, 200lbs LR and 200lbs LS w/60gal sump/ref, 3-250watt MH 2X13k & 1X 20k, 330watts VHO Over the Tank, and 150watt VHO 10k over sump/ref, Dart Pump@3600gph for the returns, 1/3HP chiller, and 25Watt UV. ASM G-2 Skimmer all of which is sitting in my garage.
5, 15+ year wait wasn't that number 4? lol
6, ya i can always use another brain, so my tank is 20x18x20 i am going to be moving about 800gph thru the 2, 3/4" returns, 150watt MH 13k pendant, 20G sump/Refg, 4" filter sock, LED light over sump, AquaEuroUSA Protein Skimmer 135, 300watt heater, going with a fan over my sump to keep the temp in check i have my 1/3hp chiller if i need it... Going to order the glass-holes 1500 gph Overlfow Box and drill the tank myself i will also be drilling the 2, 3/4" returns. i have dead rock from my 135G which i am soaking now in RO water and i have 40lbs Ocean Direct Caribbean live sand Oolite, i will be mixing my own salt water using H2ocean. Ok so what am i forgetting? does this sound about right for a sps tank? am i going over board with the flow? i dont want any power heads in my tank needs to look clean so all my flow will come from my returns. my goal is to have no wires or anything coming out of the top of my tank as it will have No canopy so needs to look clean.. i will buy some live rock even if just use it in my sump/refg to help seed my dead rock. Also should i go Led's over my tank instead of MH? i really like the shimmer of the MH and im just not sure i know the Led's last forever and very little heat and uses less power with all that said i went out and bought a Giesemann Pendant without thinking twice but i can always sell it and go Led if its worth it...:lazy2: Thanks to all in advance.

1. Oolite will be a freaking sand snow storm.
2. You want random flow for sps. Returns with a squid maybe. But I'd do the returns with 2 1" sea swirls. You will thank me later

My name is Shawn, I live in downtown LA, I've had a few freshwater aquariums but always admired the reef tank, decided out of nowhere to start again, found a JBJ 28 HQI, got some rock in and the tank should be cycled by next week, which will be week four. I'm doing my research, and more timid than speedy at introducing habitants, still trying to gear this tank up as much as possible for stability and easy MX. I will be trolling and reading.

Hello, my name is Hugo and I live in Silver Lake. I moved into my first home this past May and decided to keep a saltwater tank for the first time. I did lots of reading on many forums and websites concerning problems first time reefers have. Not having much money, I bought with a Nuvo 8 gallon nano. I started with some live rock and live sand. I let the tank cycle for about a month before I added my cuc. Since then I've added a clownfish, some zoa's and a red fire shrimp. So far things are great. Trying to keep patient and taking clean up, and water changes seriously. I hope all goes well.

Welcome to SCR Hugo. Those Nuvos are sleek little nanos... I like the pedestal legs. Sounds like you've done some research and are doing things right. Good luck maybe start a build thread with some pictures. All of us reef nerds like pictures you know?

I think that is you on your birthday LOL... mmm I love benihanas LOL

Yeah buying corals takes some time before you know what to look for as far as health and survivability. Fresh cuts are a risk definitely.

I was hoping to document it like many have on youtube and forums, but I guess I was just a little too self-conscious. I have taken photos of it monthly and have been keeping a journal of what I do. I'm attaching a recent photo of it. It was taken on 09/21/12. The official start up date is 06/15/12. The mushrooms and the green zoas were given to me by a co-worker to get me started. I'm not liking the rock set up much. When I picked it out I had one thing in mind, but just couldn't get it right. I"ve also had some bad luck with purchasing some fresh frag zoa's on craiglist. You live and you learn.

I was hella excited to get the frags, only to be devastated when they melted away. Only after it happened did I research fresh cut frags and how risky they are. I learned my lesson.

Recently I've been on a mission to find me some dwarf cerith and nertie snails. I've been to about 10 lfs and haven't been able to find them. That $30 shipping fee for online sales is a real killer.

Let me rack my brain but I know someone who had those and was giving them away at a SCMAS meeting.
