Sorry to hear about the problems Estaban, You need to leave the bottle of calibration fluid in your sump and calibrate with test fluid the same temp as your water you are testing. Salinity changes with temp on a refractometer, so if you calibrate and measure your water at 77 degrees, you will get a different reading when your tank drops to 74. So if your bottle of calibration fluid is at 65 degrees in garage and you calibrate then test your 77 degree water it will be way off in accuracy. I like the Apex as well and keep mine at 35ppt with an email if it goes up or down 1ppt.
This is true unless your fracto temp compensates

And normally with calibration solutions as soon as the cap comes off the fluid inside will start to evaporate, even if you think you are quick enough and recap you'll still have evaporate.

The TP pro salt normally is low Calcium (390) and alk (6.5) when you mix at 1.026 ppm

If you want to keep the Calcium, alk high like 425 or 8.00 when you mix your water then your Salinity should be raised up high every time you do water change.
sorry you experienced that I use tm pro and test regularly to ensure quality to my customers and have not experienced readings that low if you do small batches and do not use the whole bucket / or bag then settling does and will occur if I do not use the whole bag or bucket when mixing I shake to compensate for settling and have not had a problem some thing to take into consideration

I have contact with US Tropic Marine and they admitted that their salt is low on Cal and Alk on the TP Pro. There is a good salt but you need to buffle up.
I too have contacted tm in Germany and they told me to shake the bag or bucket and did not mention that they had low readings of alk ca and mag I will contact them again thx for the 411 good sir

To be 100% honest I've been getting pretty normal reads from the salt. But since I've been mixing at 1.031 that could be the kicker. I will mix some either tonight or tomorrow and will report back.

Anyone want to do the math on how I bring my salinity back down to 1.026 in a month?

Just mix your water Change water weaker is what I'd do. I'd do like . 020 intill my levels came down.

Remove 1g of salt water and replace with 1g of fresh everyday. Should be good.

True but is it a big difference doing a gallon a day compared to doing a 20g water change mixed at 1.020 and have the bigger fluctuation then 1g a day? That's the way I look at it.
Absolutely not because on that . 020 change you would be checking to make sure at bare minimum your alk was the same as your tank water. Basically the same thing as when your going to a hypo type setup.

Esteban why don't u just switch to instant ocean? I swear I saw no difference when I switched. So much cheaper too.

I wanna look into the salinity probe. Think it's worth it?

I have not had any direct experience with the new salinity probe that the apex has now, but older ones would require frequent calibration. Call the guys at Marine Depot, they will give you the low down. Speak to Dan, Jason, or Chris if possible.
