He's doing better. I see no aggression between him, the tangs, and the regal. I fed some chefzilla earlier and he nibbled at a few pieces a little bit, but then spit them out. I'll try live black worms tomorrow.
Sounds promising!! Is he grazing on the liverock?

He has started too. Thing is, I don't have much algae growing on the rocks.

I'm looking forward to feeding him black worms today and see how that goes.
Yea it's not a reliable meal, but grazing is still a good sign in my book. think it's only a matter of time n he'll be chomping on anything you throw in there.

I just added a new era algae ring and he's grazing on it! Definitely a good sign. On its first day he showed no feeding response; at least yesterday he tried some food, and now he's grazing on algae. I'll take that as progress!

Hahaha. The only reason I didn't qt this guy was because he was qt'd by ocean marine sales for over ten days and medicated. I think that if I had a bigger qt tank, I'd have better success with the big fish.

I drip acclimated this guy for over one and a half hours, while I couldn't even acclimate the copperband because there was so little water in the bag. Still crossing my fingers on this guy...

Tried some black worms. He tried them and spit them up. Also tried brine/spirulina, but didn't go for it. Later I'll try mysis and cyclopeze and see how that plays out.

Fed LRS Fish Frenzy last night, he eats it and then spits it back out, but keeps persisting. Seems like he doesn't like big chunks. I see him taking in small pieces, but not sure if he's swallowing them. It continues to graze on rocks. More later...

I'm continuing feeding and it's hard to tell if it eats. I tried the Finicky Fish formula, but I wasn't as close to the tank as I liked to see if it ate them. I'll observe again today. I tried LRS Reef Frenzy this time and while he picked at it, he spit it back out, but then continued to pick at it once again. I'm guessing he doesn't like big chunks of food. He's now picking on Julian Sprung's Sea Veggies (is that nori?).

Is it worth a shot to try clam in a half shelf? I have access to some.

Julian sprungs is nori. You can try clams. Look back through my old thread. There's a link buried in there that kind of explains why it's hard for idols to eat.

In short, they're shy eaters. If there's aggressive eaters inside a tank, they tend to avoid eating.

Are y ou an acan fan? If not try getting cheap acan frags. I started picking up cheap acans for it to snack on. Or look for some LR with sponges. I did that too and it would eat from my hand.

In retrospect mine may have survived if I didn't get so lazy and feed only pellets.

I'll try the clams. And wow it ate off your hand? It must have loved sponges! Haha I'll look into getting some cheap acans too.

Did your Idol ever eat pellets? I feed frozen once a day. I've actually been feeding it more like twice a day now for variety. I don't care what I feed as long as it eats.

He's been in my tank over a week now. Swims pretty peacefully, except when my regal gets too close, but otherwise, it's not meeting much aggression. The tangs leave it alone because he's a good size.
