Two things I can comment on:

1. Wiring for networking.
2. A/C Mini Splits.

1. Regarding wiring it looks like the walls are still open, I would recommend wiring with CAT6 for future things like Apex Connectivity, Network/Web Cameras, Smart Controllers, etc. Applications are endless. The cost is low when everything is open like it is now. You may also want to bring a line in from the main house an up-link to the internet. I would do 4 ports for each wall myself if I were running cables. It's an additional cost, but well worth it. Just not having to mess with Wireless bridges or the latency in a camera system, it pays off big time.

2. Regarding mini splits, I did a lot of research on this. Here is the brief summary. Top brands I came up with were Mitsubishi, Fujitsu, and LG. Mitsubishi is the leader with the best warranties and as a result probably the most durable/robust, but they are also the most expensive. LG units are the nicest looking and a good price point, but lack the long term warranties. Fujitsu is somewhere in between, more expensive than LG, but better warranty.

In the end I went with the following unit:
https://www.acwholesalers.com/Fujit...d=cat1028&mainCat=&subCat=&trail=1004:Fujitsu

I've been very happy with it, it's whisper quiet inside and the mini split systems are super efficient. The outside unit is also incredibly quiet, I thought it wasn't working compared to my central air I use for the whole house.

In any case, you're making the right call with mini split units regardless on which one you chose, this is the way to go.

Good luck with the build, it looks great so far! I would reach out to Scott S. for humidity control, he has a really cool setup with an air exchanger that works well for him. He also has one of the most amazing fish rooms.

Is the QT system going to be for fish too or just coral?
The qt will be 99% coral only. We aren't going to go and spend millions at the wholesalers or anything. That is not us. We plan to have all old school stuff, tried and true. We've gotten frags from people "pest free" and they were not. So ANY corals we get will be qt'd before touching our system water. With such a big water volume and having a pest to erraticate would be insane.

Thanks for the advice! I definitely plan to run some cat5/6 in the walls. I plan to install a cool HD camera system and I've heard they have the power-over-ethernet models now. That'll make it nice to be able to monitor stuff when we're out of town. For the mini-split, we bought the LG ArtCool Mirror system back a few years ago and never installed it. At this point, I'm sure it's out of warranty by now, but oh well, hopefully we can get some good use of it!

Is this being set up as a business or just hobbyists gone mad. Either way, impressive set up and thank you for sharing your build out
Definitely hobbyists gone mad for now.. we really don't have the time for a business commitment and don't want to ruin the fun of the hobby either. At this point, we'd prefer to just trade with others and grow stuff out. If we can sell a few things occasionally to help cover monthly power bill expenses and maybe fund some new equipment, we definitely wouldn't be opposed to that. Dealing with shipping stuff and websites and emails and etc does not sound appealing to us. We just want the freedom to be able to go in there at our leisure, or avoid going in there at all. Our current setup keeps us from being able to go out of town for more than a few days, and we always have to be within driving distance incase something happens. We want this new system to be automated enough to where we can leave for weeks at a time, and not have to worry about the power going out, or feeding the fish, or changing the water, or turning the R/O system on.

Be careful with the salty air and that indoor unit. The salt will destroy that fan coil pretty quick. When we install air handlers near the coast, we give the option of epoxy coating the coils to resist corrosion. You can probably break down that unit, pull the coil and have it coated pretty easily. Hopefully you can get 5 years+ the way it is.

Awesome info! That's what I was a bit nervous about. Is there a different A/C unit that you would suggest instead, that comes with coated coils or designed for a more harsh enviroment, or do you know someone that can pull the coil(s) and have them coated for me? If I can get 5 years the way it is, I'd be pretty stoked. At that point, I would only have to replace the unit that's mounted inside, and not the compressor outside, correct? I'm all ears at this point and really appreciate the info! Thanks.

From reading, it seems copper coils hold up better than aluminum coils. Multiple sources are saying that field applied epoxy coatings are a waste of money. Many are saying that it's just the nature of the beast and to expect to have to replace the unit every 4-7 years. Supposedly cleaning the coil on a regular basis will greatly extend it's life. Any input?

Looks great.

If i were to go that big i would dig out a basement. IMO thats one big reason reefers from other parts of the country have temperature stability. Then you could use geo for heating too.

Then, when my friends say "you are such a (reef) nerd in your mom's basement" they would correct.

Holy **** you two! I just stumbled across this thread, this whole build is amazing! We'll have to stop by and check it out the next time we head to Ventura.
