for some that make alot of money then i can see why saving $50 is not worth it..but ive spent wayyyyyy too much in this hobby so if i can save $50 it helps out alot..and idk where u live but garden grove is like a 30-40 min drive from my house in corona..(no traffic)...i dont have a problem with LFS, but i have seen what prices MD sells stuff for and what prices some LFS owners charge and its wayyy off..ya they dont charge 10x the amount for every item..but i swear i have paid 5-6x as much for some items and i go home and find it for alot cheaper and i kick myself in the butt...i understand supporting LFS is a good thing, and i try my hardest to support them..but saving $50 is worth it to me...
i own a business and my theory is that its better to make a $1 on a customer and keep them happy then to make $0 and lose a customer to someone like MD..if LFS would just match online prices and keep customers happy i think in the long run LFS owners would make more money...its not that hard to understand..would u rather have 5 customers that pay ur full price? or 10 customers ..5 that pay full price, and 5 bargain shoppers that pay a discounted price, ya the 5 bargain shoppers u wont make as much, but at least u made something...idk seems like a pretty easy business plan to me and for my business it works wonders!

i think all LFS owners prolly hate shoppers like me..and ya online stores suck, but unfortunately the internet is here to stay, so either adapt or go out of business.
It doesn't matter how happy Jason or any other LFS makes you, you will go where the best deal is apparently. Most LFS buy directly from MDs wholesale department and I've seen this price list and what you paid for those items is what these stores are paying, minus shipping/time picking up/delivering. Sure let your LFS sell you everything at cost (which realistically is a loss) and see where they are in a year, we'll all have to go to the MD warehouse then because no LFS will be open. If you are a business owner then you know you cannot operate on making $1 profit on any sale because while that is a profit on what you paid for that item you have much more cost than that.

It's not just LFS owners...:dontknow:

I've dealt with a lot of LFS owners, and Chad and Jason(and Tom) don't fit in the same category as the rest. It's a tough business and these guys would rather lose a buck here or there and gain a customer for life. As long as the prices you bring to either of them are legit, I'm sure they would match or come very close to them. I know reef planet says I'm rich, but trust me, I am not, I've got 3 boys('nuff said). That personal touch is worth it, imho, to pay a few dollars more. I am sure that "list" you have, had you approached the right LFS owner, would have cost you pretty close to the MD prices. Assuming, you were honest in your request.

Oh, yeah, and seeing as you live in Corona, I'm sure AIM and TRFS are much closer to you, and with gas prices where they are, make that only $40 you saved tops due to the commute to MD...

...also this thread has gone a little off topic..it was supposed to be a help thread for people that are looking to save some $$ LIKE ME
You drove 80 miles, even if you got 25mpg that's over 3gallons of gas so there goes about $12. You then spent 1.5-2 hours of your time and I don't know about you but I consider my time pretty **** valuable but even if you value yourself at $10 an hour that's another $20. So out of the $50 you saved you spent over $32 so realistically you saved less than $18 and gained no traction in the hobby whatsoever.

Sounds well worth it IMO :dizzy:

I don't think it has gone off topic. Jason and I are merely stating that its only the deal you are looking for we would rather get your business by the matching the deal and giving you better service.

not bashing you, but i think the other topics that have been brought up are all intertwined. I'm sure I speak for a lot of members of the reefing community when I say that integrity also comes into play. Some of us have it and some of us dont. And some with years of experience in the hobby or just maturing with age, acquire it. Making money or saving it at any cost isn't always a good thing long-term.Yes saving money is good, but to me this hobby is more than just fish in a glass/acrylic box. It's about comradery and most of us knew coming in that it's not a cheap hobby. Some of us believe in being and staying loyal to our lfs so that when the day comes that we need their help, they are there to provide assistance.
