Oooor you can do as I do and go to your lfs like CG and they will get w.e. u want from MD, and throw a good deal in the mix. This way u get the best of both worlds.
I think this is beating the giants at their game. Throw In a Frag and or a test and it makes that customer owner thing a bond. Older cats like me believe in being loyal to a store as the store is giving that service, why not. I don't have a store like you or CG around me.

It's extra effort that will get you through this crap economy. I have had to do more for 1/3 the profit in my industry to scrape by.

That's for sure and there are LFS on almost every corner. I don't know about other stores, but I try to stay as competitive as I can with MD or Online. I think right now in this economy its about survival not profit. I think the most important for us LFS is the relationship we have with our customers. I highly doubt many customers have relationships with MD or online retailers.

for some that make alot of money then i can see why saving $50 is not worth it..but ive spent wayyyyyy too much in this hobby so if i can save $50 it helps out alot..and idk where u live but garden grove is like a 30-40 min drive from my house in corona..(no traffic)...i dont have a problem with LFS, but i have seen what prices MD sells stuff for and what prices some LFS owners charge and its wayyy off..ya they dont charge 10x the amount for every item..but i swear i have paid 5-6x as much for some items and i go home and find it for alot cheaper and i kick myself in the butt...i understand supporting LFS is a good thing, and i try my hardest to support them..but saving $50 is worth it to me...
i own a business and my theory is that its better to make a $1 on a customer and keep them happy then to make $0 and lose a customer to someone like MD..if LFS would just match online prices and keep customers happy i think in the long run LFS owners would make more money...its not that hard to understand..would u rather have 5 customers that pay ur full price? or 10 customers ..5 that pay full price, and 5 bargain shoppers that pay a discounted price, ya the 5 bargain shoppers u wont make as much, but at least u made something...idk seems like a pretty easy business plan to me and for my business it works wonders!

i think all LFS owners prolly hate shoppers like me..and ya online stores suck, but unfortunately the internet is here to stay, so either adapt or go out of business.

Business owners like jason are the the ones we all need to support. He has something that MD does not personal attention. Its called value added, and yes you will pay a little more for it but what you get is so worth it. Im new to the hobby and because of jasons experience he has helped me a ton get all that I need and not buy what I don't. MD is just there to sell you stuff. Jason takes the time to explain the why and why not. He has come by after work and helped me with my tank, delivered fish and dry goods to my house and is going to tank sit for me soon. This is priceless service. He also has to provide for his family and make a few bucks he's not in business to lose money and I think people need to remember this. Am I willing to pay a little more for such services Yes. Are jasons prices out of line NO In fact alot of times they are the same if not a buck cheaper. Cost is important, but so is service.

THANKKKKK YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU....smart smart man! in 2007-2008 my company sales were up 10%-20%..now im happy to have 1% increase..literally..for setember sales were down .02% and i was happy..shoot better than being down 5% like 2009...right now im lowering prices..doing coupons all this stuff that actually takes away from profit, but at least it keeps the doors open and customers coming back! if all businesses understood this, they would do alot better!..and just like clifford saying GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE..(keeping customers happy)..this economy is crap, but its not impossible to make a profit and keep the doors open!!
