Thanks Neil. They are my favorite pair, also the first to lay eggs and see them through all the way. Glad I was able to pick them up from you, I owe ya a couple of their best offspring!

Thanks Jennifer!

Quick update, last night I thought they were going to hatch because I noticed a silvery eye on the eggs, that would have been day 6 so I pulled the pot and stuck it in the rearing tank.

No hatches this morning, so I jumped the gun. I am pretty sure they will hatch tonight though, although maybe not as many! Kind of a bummer but we will see. Either way the pair are cleaning their new pot this morning so if these don't hatch they should lay again sometime next weekend or early the following week. Female is already starting to plump up again!

On another note, I was able to move my pink skunk pair that was in QT into the broodstock system last night when I pulled the pot, here is a pic!

Ended up losing this clutch entirely, I think I had my airstone config wrong in the rearing tank. Initially too not enough circulation around eggs, I corrected this a day too late and they ended up turning white (dead).

Good news is it looks like she is going to lay again today or tomorrow, she is huge again and they are both cleaning aggressively. My gold stripe maroons are cleaning aggressively too as of this weekend, I think they are going to go soon to, so I may have more than I bargained for.

This time I am going to let it run its course and leave the eggs to hatch in the tank. That way I will know the number of days their eggs take to hatch (normally pretty consistent but depends on the pair from what I understand). I will then use the flashlight method to collect - a couple of hours after lights out, come in and shine a flashlight in the corner of the tank and collect the fry in a cup.

Tonight the second clutch should hatch, it's day 8. I am going to let them hatch in tank this time and move them an hour or two after lights out. Will post more tomorrow hopefully with some pics!

Jason, this is awesome thread. I've never really read about breeding clowns before and this is really cool and easy to understand. I'm going to follow along because I want to be first in line for a pink skunk when you start selling them. Post a pic of the eggs when they lay them and I'll pick one then you can just keep tract of that fish. Maybe I can get weekly updates on it's progress. LOL Seriously how long does it take from the time they hatch until they can be sold? It seems like a while for them to get to a decent size and be able to eat pellets etc.

Thanks troy. For sure you can pick an egg, might as well have a dedicated web cam on it that way you can keep tabs on it to see how its doing :top: Maybe even a reality show?

Yea its a lengthy process, they eat live rotifers first, then weaned on to baby brine shrimp then pellets (starting with a really small pellet). In about 3-4 months they should be a sellable size that can eat normal size pellets. I am learning as I go and posting about it here so feel free to follow along and watch me screw up a couple more times haha.

Wow, you have dedication. I'd screw up everything. Lol. I'll keep my fingers crossed that those skunks bump uglies so I can say that I got a fish bred by a fellow reefer. Make sure you have some Barry White playing 24/7 then you'll get more fry than you known what to do with. ;)
