Hi guys, my name is Gonzalo, I began last year with my graduate studies here in L.A. (UCLA) and I was impressed by the quantity and quality of livestock here .
In Chile we have a very limited supply (3 or 4 decent stores), with basic corals (lots of softies, some zoanthus, some LPS and SPS), and even more basic fish (maybe 6 species of tang, 3 of clownfish, damselfishes, some blennies and gobies...and that's it), and at 3x 4x the prices at the EXPENSIVE LFS here in L.A. haha...so well, as soon as I arrived here I decided to start with my reef, which sadly I had to postpone until now. Finally I got my new 100 gallon tank running (will post pics and details soon), cycled and ready to roll. I've been in the aquarium hobby for 3 years, 2 with a reef back home (which I had to sell before coming). My dad use to have aquariums (freshwater) since before I was born (26 years ago), and I guessed the hobby passed on the next generation.
Take a look at www.acuaristas.cl, which is our local Chilean forum (dedicated to all types of aquariums, the reef community is quite small), here we have a sort of "ranking" voted by the forum members that you should check out to see how is the aquarium scene "up south" (http://www.acuaristas.cl/index.php/acuaranking).
Well, I will be here during the next 3-4 years, so you will see me posting (and buying stuff probably) for a while.
