How many channels do you have with the T5 fixture? You could run the whiter channel for mid day punch, then off, then use the kessil's during the off time with lower intensity?

That's a damn good idea. It's only got 2 channels. 2 lamp (currently actinics) and 8 lamp channels. My only hesitation is I really like the overlap of actinics and the blue of the kessils i get at dawn/dusk. I could throw the tropics in the 2 lamp and use it for punch midday, that might even be a cool realistic ramp/dusk.

I'll have to think about it as I love the spectrum with all 10 lamps lit. It's really just missing shimmer but the spectrum is spot on for me. Just a little flat.

I've got 1 kessil that doesn't want to turn on under 30% consistently so that's my low point. At 30% I get okay looking shimmer with all 10 lamps (adds around 200 PAR @ 30%) but around 70% it looks like straight MH. Everything full blast I was getting shimmer spikes in the 1000+ range around my higher tonga rockwork.

Is the Kessil controlled through your apex? Sometimes they don’t play nice with each other. I have an extra spectral controller if you want to use it? Take some compressed air and clean out the 0-10v control ports, sometimes a little dirt will mess things up.

I'll give that a go. They are all daisy chained, maybe it's not getting the proper voltage. I've noticed color on all 4 isn't spot on if set at 50% so could be the issue there too.

So I'm starting to see a dent in the bryopsis. I believe I'm around day 5. I added the skimmer cup back and a small amount of carbon yesterday. I also did a snow dosing last night and fresh socks to help pull out some debris. I thought it might help remove the flux too.

GHA survived so far but I'm fine by that. That I can pluck and scrub back without it spreading like wild fire. I'm hoping once I'm able to do that the tangs will keep it in check. If not I'll be adding a fox face and possibly a scopas to round the algae control group.

Still have that weird brown dusting on the sandbed, still no bubbles (dinos) but I have a feeling they are a form of dinos. It's part of why I'm pulling the flux now and not waiting to see if it'd help with the GHA as well. I'll take GHA over dinos.

coraline is in full force, maybe that will provide less area for algae to easily take hold?

Hope it’s not dinos as that would royally suck. Couldn’t it be cyano?
It could be, where the sand sits still it does kind of mat up. It is close to gone in the AM then pretty thick end of light schedule that has me thinking dinos. Under my lighting cyano was pretty red, this is brown.

PNS Probio will help

I got that on the way.

I ordered some substrate sauce also. Not sure if my sand bed is deep enough to harbor everything but maybe it'll help. Looking forward to giving it a go.

Damn! The good thing about Substrate sauce is it will add .03ppm of phosphate to help feed the bacteria, so you'll get a little bump in PO4.

At least you don’t have osteoporosis. I lost a bunch of stuff , corals and cuc, to osteoporosis. Fortunately coolia is one of the fastest strains of Dino to get rid of. Once you get you uv going it should take about 2 weeks or so. Make sure to run carbon as coolia is also toxic.

That's good. I need to get some hanna reagents so I can start testing again. I got a feeling I'm still undetectable though.

Yeah working on a game plan for that still. Hopefully 57w is enough for dinos in this tank. Now that I'm looking around I have lost some cuc. Surprisingly my conches are all still fine and I saw some nassarius snails pop up last night when I fed oyster feast, so that's good.

Man I simply love these fish. I’ve got a quad in my tank hoping that I get a breeding pair or even two out of them.
I've been super tempted to get a mate for this one. I'm just horrible at trying to tell the sex of them. This is actually a CB from Eve, OGFrenchorn here. I think he/she is going on 3-4 years old now.

I like them too. He's got a boss personality for sure. Not that active but tank mates only get to spend so much time under that ledge before he checks them.

Sexing then while not terribly difficult isn’t exactly easy either. That’s why I went for a young group so that maturity can sort it out. Would be funny though to end up with either all males or females on my part 😂
