Sexing then while not terribly difficult isn’t exactly easy either. That’s why I went for a young group so that maturity can sort it out. Would be funny though to end up with either all males or females on my part 😂
Ha! Hope not. If you gotta get rid of some at any point let me know, I'll buy them. Place them in an acclimation box and see how they react.

That is a super cool shot!

I had bad luck pairing Banggais too. So, I went Threadfin / Blue Eyed on I’ve really enjoyed them. I have three and they seem to “school” more than Bangaiis do and my black cap will really get them “balled” up in the evenings like a bait fish.

I would imagine in a tank sized like yours a school of 10 or so would look killer! Granted they’re not the most stunning fish but they add a very natural appeal.

That would be cool! I was in Tongs and they had a bunch of zebra/striped dartfish I was tempted to try. Not sure they could hang with the flow though.

Your tank is right by the window. Was it there last year? If so did you experience this at the same time of year then? Season and time change along with the outside source of light might be having an impact, actually that’s a guarantee. Problem? Maybe cut back on the artificial light and use the sun as daylight save some money. Adjust the blinds so it’s not direct but indirect. Windows most likely have some UV protection. Then again maybe not.

You got me looking back in my last build thread. The tank wasn't in the same location in the room, but it did get daylight at some point, probably slightly less. I had dinos in February last year. That system was about the same age as this system at that time. I almost feel like dinos are part of the cycle or ugly stages for me now. That could 100% be the fact that I ran similar treatments for the same nuisance algae. Block out A&B and you get C type deal. That's the problem with band-aides I guess in a young system. Something will thrive, kill one and another prevails. I feel like once my last system got enough growth from coral, they actually started to outcompete algae in tandem with my CUC.

I’m excited to give this a go. Per instructions it looks like I should be dosing about 1/2 a bottle.
I’m going to kill my skimmer for a few hours and my UV until lights out. I’m trying to nuke my dinoflagellates still or I’d kill both for 24 hours. Hopefully this will help with those too

I’ve heard good things about these products.

Same here. I’m just going to need to stay on top of my nutrients. I’ve been working hard to keep no3 and po4 constant since these Dino’s popped up.
I’ve been locked in at 5-10 nitrates and .05-.07 phosphates. I’m starting to get green film back on the glass so hopefully that will start competing with the Dino’s as well? I feel like that green film is an indicator the tanks going the right way now.

Remember that substrate sauce has .03ppm of PO4, so it will give you a little boost and help the bacteria to kick off. Probio is just good stuff. I've been doing every other week, but I think every week should do the trick with my feeding habits. If you have any questions about this stuff, reach out to Ken (creator/owner) he's super helpful and always provides great customer support. He's active on R2R if you search PNS Probio. I'm going to dose some Yello Sno here shortly. Just dosed Probio yesterday.

Sorry guys for the confusion. I happen to be battling dinos but wanted to give this a try prior to that. Being bacteria I'll be watching my nutrients to make sure they don't pull them down further and worsen my dino issue. I am hoping it will help support microbes ect that may help outcompete my dino issue though.

So after dosing the Substrate Sauce I did notice a .02 bump in po4. That has me a .09 .

I identified my dinos as coolia, they are staying mostly in the sand bed. Per a buddies advice I moved my UV directly to my display ( you can see it in the backround). It's a 57w Aqua UV fed by a sicce 1.5. It's a little undersized so I may run my Vecton 18w in tandom if I don't start seeing improvement. My main plan of attack for the coolia strain is:
-UV directly in display (this strain free floats at night so can be destroyed by UV)
-Maintaining detectable nutrient levels. I believe this is in hopes to get some competition back in the tank
-Feeding live phytoplankton and bacteria products. I've been using Prodibo Bio Digest. I'll keep that in the mix with these PNS products going forward.

Hopefully I'll see a dent soon. I'm going to start stirring the sand bed before lights out to try and force more into the water column. So far the coral are all looking pretty good and I had to increase my 2 part by 10ml yesterday, so that's always a good sign!

I went through this recently with Ostreopsis Dinos but from my understanding Coolia is closely related to it. So the Treatment is somewhat the same. Took me just under two week to rid my tank with Dinos and here's what I did.
Re plumbed my 40 watt Uv straight to the DT and dug up another 25 watt Uv and plumbed that too straight the DT. Ran only blues no red no green and no whites and shorten my photo period by 2 hours. Ran filter socks and replace that each day and run carbon. I raise my Nitrates above 10 and phosphate to 0.10 and dose Microbater7 and reef enhancer. I turned off the UV, skimmer and carbon while dosing Mb7 for atleast 4 hours and blast them off the rocks and sand whenever possible towards the UV specially before lights out. And in about one and a half weeks later Dinos are gone.
Hope this help and if you need another Uv I got a 25 watt you can borrow with a maxi jet pump all you have to do is hang it in the back and plug it in.

Good to hear! I may take you up on that 25w UV if this doesnt start working for me soon.

Sounds pretty close to what I'm planning to do minus the light reduction and change? Any negative affects from doing that? I really don't like to make sudden changes with mostly sps in the tank, so that concerns me a bit. Along with my gigantea getting light hungry and walking on me.

I had some Dino issues also. I plumbed one into to my frag tank which got rid of them in the frag tank. Took it off and then plumbed 2 tJebao 54w UV together in the sump and display has cleared up quite a bit now. The Jebao are cheaper in price but a workhorse from my experience with them.

That's good to know. If I get in a position of needing a second I'll check them out!

That was my concern As well with mostly sps and a nem that I just moved to the bottom prior to this. But my tank was starting to look like crap and I don’t wanna do a 100 percent blackout. But I didn’t loose any corals or any sps brown out. Another thing too I just gotten my insanity grow out frag just day before I started the treatment. That frag is doing great 😊 let me know if you wanna use the UV it’s got a new bulb.
One more thing if your feeding amino you have to stop it’s food for Dino’s.
