Agreed. We are spoiled out here. I was back in the Midwest a few months ago and oddly enough found a reef store (in Fort Wayne, IN). He had a few cool zoa colonies that I hadn't seen before, so I asked him what was his "price per polyp". He started laughing at me and said nobody out there ever thinks in those terms. "Nobody out here will spend $10.00 for a single zoa!" So I bought the whole colony for $25, bagged it up and threw it in my carry-on for my return flight back to Cali. The store could not possibly be profitable.
Regarding the comments on max. After reading them I won't be making it out...can't justify the drive, admission price, and seemingly lack of a "wow" factor I think many were anticipating. I agree that certain percentage of reefers out here are definitely spoiled...and there's nothing wrong with that. They've put in the time, commitment, and made the necessary connections...they want a deal, and frankly, they're entitled to one. Because of this graduating trend, vendors and store owners need to continuously seek out new hobbyists which is what max might be better suited for. I would assume the "primo" pieces everyone was hoping to see are typically bought and sold without the need for events such as max. Just my thoughts.
