Spark's 50g SPS Cube

Update. Levels have been stable and thanks to using long established live rock there was no cycle. Added some new fish over the weekend thanks to some Black Friday deals and the wife went a little crazy with fish. I wanted a Kole Tang so we picked up one of those plus she wanted to see a Yellow Tang and some small schooling fish so be got a few Blue Chromis. Lots of swimming going on now. The next struggle is to keep her from any and all flowing softy and leather corals as I really don't want them in the tank haha. I'll post some photos later but I don't think I'll be adding any more fish for some time. To much to fast in my opinion but we just could not pass up the great deals. Also picked up some really nice corals from jessesoto33. I'll post some names and photos later when the lights turn on and I have a little time.

Well over the weekend I noticed the red slime I was fighting for the last year in my frag tank has taken a hold of the new tank. So I dosed with Chemiclean (to get a head) and changed up my lights a little to see if it help. I have been running my LED's at 75% so I bumped them down to 50% and took one of the Coral+ Bulbs out of my t5's and replaced it with a blue+. I also changed my T5's from running 6 hours a day to only 4 hours. Now I just have to wait and see if it comes back in a month like it was doing in the frag tank.

Ok time for another update. Last week I started building my canopy to hide my lights. Construction is done but I need to paint the inside and finish the finishing on the outside. All fish and corals have been doing good. The only real issue I have had over the last week is cyanobacteria but seams to be clearing up now. Yesterday I received my 3rd dosing container and I was able to get my 3rd BRS dosing pump online last night which is starting to dose VSV (Vinegar, Sugar, Vodka). Not sure how well this is going to work for me but figured I would give it a shot early on. I also finally got my second media reactor online and tumbling carbon. This issue that kept it off line all this time was I need to extend one of the pipes from my manifold so that they both fit in such a small space. Once I figured out how to do that yet keep it easy to remove them for cleaning, everything fit right together. So now I have both Carbon and GFO tumbling away. Once I get the cables cleaned up a little more I will post some photos of how its working but I have to say I miss my stand of my 75 gallon right now as its so cramped under this thing.

Red slime is finally going away. I've gotten about 75% of it out and I've noticed me clean up crew all running for food now when I feed. I've ordered a new sump from John at Advanced Acrylics so I can accommodate a much larger skimmer and things seam to be getting on track.

Need to get in there and clean out my sump with my next water change.

FTS

Reactors all online and kicking. Picking up one of the newer Aquamax media reactors tonight from Coral Gazers to try it out as it's got a little smaller foot print.

So I have been debating if I should post this or not. I have been in contact with Marine Depot about getting this warranted (so far great service as always), but I figured I would at least share with others. I came home from work last night and found about 1/4-1/2 gallon of water on my floor under my tank. (need to set up a leak detection) The culprit was 1 of my AquaMaxx Media Reactors. I happened to have a cable coming down right next to one of the sides and it allowed the leak I discovered in my reactor last night to drip all the way down to the floor. Thankfuly I have a drip loop and caught it before it got bigger and caused and damage because my floors are stone so no damage was done. But for all of you to see what was leaking here is a quick video and how not having your electrical out of the way can cause issues even if you do have these things in your sump and not on the side.

BTW even though this happened I love these reactors as this is the only issue I have ever had with one of them in the 2 years I have been using their reactors. They are a good size and built well. I must have just gotten a bad one with my order last month and then my carelessness of not keeping my cables away and cleaned up allowed for the water to get to the floor and not stay in my sump.

Just got off the phone with John at Advanced Acrylics! Oh man I can't wait for my new sump to arrive. After trying to get a bigger skimmer for this system I realized I was going to have to reconfigure all the baffles in the current sump or have one made. After calculating how much time it was going to take me to reconfigure it and how long it would be down for I decided it was cheaper (my time cost allot of money lol) to have one made to what I needed. Anyways 3/4 acrylic all the way around, 1/4 baffles, 4" filter sock holder, dosing tubes, and probe holder. So long old sump and hello new one. Now will it drive by christmas or after, who knows but it is feeling like a reef tank christmas to me right now. Can't wait for this sexy beast to show up.

What about sharing your "OH SHIET MY AUTO FEEDER JUST DUMPED THE WHOLE CONTAINER OF FOOD IN MY TANK".
Um what? Sorry don't know what your talking. Did you do that?

Yes yes I picked up a apex auto feeder last week. When setting it up I went to take the food tray out and adjust the amount of food to come out. Well the stupid top came off and dumped half the contents of food in my tank Friday. I siphoned it out and did a 30% water change Friday night do to it being cloudy and did another Saturday morning. So far I have 2 corals that may are may not make it, but their frags (fragged them to try and save them) seem to be fine so far.

For now on I will take the whole auto feeder off the tank to make any adjustments.

This am I water tested the new sump and all is good. Took my sand I rinsed really well from my 25 gallons fuge that has been drying for the last month and placed in the fuge section with a little rock rubble. Need to go pick up the plumbing parts so I can plumb this bad boy in this weekend or after the New Years.

Working on the new manifold for the new sump.

The left section will be to the return pump and then up to the tank. The right section will be reactors and an extra outlet for water changes or to add in equipment later if I need too.

New sump is fully connected and running! What a project but I'm supper happy to have my SWC 180 Cone running now and I seam to have added about 3 gallons of water volume in the process.
