Buy two seperate piece of 2x4 to fit in the place of the wood you're removing. (Creating a large gap) ----- Temporarily wedege them in place, then remove the one piece just enough to place your sump underneath. Put the original back into it's place and send us an update of your work!!!! Best of luck to you.

It looks like cutting the center beam is the way to go... wish me luck! I'll post an update this weekend when I get around to it!

Why don't you just get a smaller sump? If that's the petco pine stand its the same one I have and all I could fit in there was a 10 gallon, better than nothing.

could always do 2 10g, linked together with bulkheads...
I sorta did this, the glass on the 10 gallon tank is too thin to drill and install a bulkhead on it without the risk of it cracking so I took a 1/4" panel of glass the size of the end panel on the 10 gallon and removed all the silicone on the inside to make sure they are perfectly flush and siliconed edges so it is glued in good. Then i put them side by side with drilled tank on a 2x4 stand making is about 6" higher than the main sump and t'd my return line to feed this tank and it drains via clear hose back in to the retun pump chamber of the sump. Sounds compliated but its really simple took me a couple of hours and cost me maybe 20$ including the tank, glass and some ebay bulkheads.

Yeah. I have a pine stand, but not from Petco. Got it from The Reef in Anaheim. Yeah, I've decided to go with 2 10s linked together with either u tubes or drilling then bulkheads. Yeah I was thinking something like what u did Ronald. I posted another thread about it.

About 6 years ago I had the exact same set up as you. I had a cheap pine stand that is all glued together with staples on the doors just like yours. I drained some water and knocked out that center piece in front with a mallet hammer. Slid a 20g Long sump and never even replaced the center board. Had it like that for over a year. You have more than enough support from the four corners.
