so, last night, the $50 belkin powerstrip I use burned out..power off all night I guess, as I woke up to dead silence and no fish swimming around

now, I have 2 fish floating/swimming and everything is back up and running..any ideas on what to do?

should I add PH buffer, ALK, bacteria what??

I need to save the last 2 fish (9" sohal and gold snapper)

and yes, crosshatch, chevron, leiitenant, purple tang, scotts wrasse, watanebei angel, bellus angel, and everything else in there dead..that's phase 2, picking up bodies..worst day ever

any help appreciated, thanks

Sorry to hear. I've never had that happen but I imagine you test all your levels and adjust accordingly. Slowly of course.

SLEE OMG that sucks !

if the power is back on there is nothing to do but fish out the corpses and do a water change, feed the survivors. some people would crank up the ozone if you have it, add some hydrogen peroxided to oxygenate/disinfect. sorry.

Sorry to hear bro, try to oxigenate the water and add bacteria, w.c. and test for ammonia. Hope your remaining fish make it

thanks for kind words guys

im here posting cuz im sitting here looking at tank and waiting for my sohal to make it. He's all black and floating on top of water surface..my 6 inch full grown leopard wrasse is alive, thankfully

mixing salt water for WC as we speak...water is freezing cold, so i've got 3 pots on the stove boiling it.

I added some PH buffer and some seachem prime to hopefully neutralize any crap in the water

crosshatch confirmed dead, 9" spanish hog (lakers colors) confirmed dead, chevron confirmed, scotts wrasse and all wrasses dead.. what a crappy day

Sue Belkin! Take pictures, lots of pictures and I would definitely write them a letter.

My Uncle is an Executive for that company, they got lots of $$$$$$$$$$$$$. I know there's no comfort in the monetary aspect but maybe they will give you a severance or something. Hope it's not like the strip the last owner on my tank used, reads, "do not use on Aquariums"

OOOOOOOOOOOh Crap!
Get a bottle of Patron
get the dead guys out
do a good water change and probably again in a week

Needless to say this is why i always run 2 dedicated circuits to my tanks and plug in important stuff off of both of them so hopefully if something goes wrong or trips the breaker the other will keep things alive. Not that this helps but for future or invest in a battery back-up.

Good idea Paul, I have two power strips also , but i have one plugged into the other one. I will definitely separate each one and plug important things in both.

Good point !

thanks for the offer Jason, I'll let you know when I restock..

I'm going to have to buy 3-4 surge protectors per tank, so in case one fails, my entire system doesn't shut off like it did last night

I managed to do a 50% water change and fished out most of the dead fish I could get to..I know there's more dead fish, but they're likely hidden inside the rocks on the back wall, so no way I can get to them....:censored:

It's time to buy a CUC crew to eat the rotting flesh I guess, especially since the spanish hog fish that used to eat all my CUC died in this crash..

fish dying sucks..i'd rather have super rare LE corals die than fish who interacted with you, waited for food, spit water, etc...this sucks!! screw tank crashes

Wow Steve, really sorry this happened. Looks like you are hanging in there ! I was just at the Mystic Reef in Riverside, they have a great selection of the CUC. Not sure where you are at. If close give them a shot, they will have what you need.

Hang in there !

thanks guys, really appreciate it. I'll work on the CUC tommorow..I just need a couple hermits, so my LFS down the street will have em'.

tank is settled down now..I got some survivors, so that's good. Sohal and Lieutenant tangs pulled through. They both were all black and hanging out on the top of the water..I thought they were goners.

Damm saphhire damsels survived..all 7 of them, so I guess they really are strong fish along with my maroon pair.

toughest lost was the crosshatch trigger. I managed to pull him out using a wire hanger, as he was stuck in a crevice in the rear of the tank wedged behind two rocks. Sucker was fat as hell too, felt like I was picking up a burrito from Chipotle, I fed that sucker good.

pretty much all my wrasses died, at least 5 different fairy wrasses, scotts wrasse, 2 mystery wrasses. The only wrasse to make it was my leopard, which is the hardest to replace out of the wrasses, so i'm lucky i guess
