Sensationalism brought to anything is a bad thing.

It sets an unrealistic expectation of what a certain "something" should be. It brings disappointment and unnecessary casualties at the end of the day.

Bottom line, I think this show is doing more harm than good in terms of the hobby. It basically sets up a new comer for failure from day one, and when things fall apart the newb is sitting there scratching their head, "but it worked on tanked, what happened?"

That being said, it's still fun to watch as long as you understand that it's entertainment. I haven't learned a darn thing about the hobby watching this show, if anything I've learned what "NOT" to do.

Single minded? They kick *** with tank building and design, but as far as setting up tanks, they suck! They kill most of the fish they put into the tanks they build. I have seen it firsthand, so don't say I don't know what im talking about. As I said, go talk to the lajolla group in Tustin.

Its just television. I worked in a tattoo shop when the first couple of tattoo reality shows began to air. I remember what a frenzy all of us in the industry were in. They did not show the dangers of cross contamination and the need for sterilization. No mention of aseptic environments. They did not use face masks when tattooing. No glasses to prevent bio spray. They did not bag the machines. No mention of waveside wipedowns... bla bla bla bla.

We were all so pissed. We were convinced it would be a black eye on the tattooing and body modification community. That every kid with a needle would start attempting to tattoo friends with hepatitis C infected equipment and that we would all go back to being synonymous with bikers and prostitutes and sailors. We argued as to how we could prevent the death and insanity that was sure to follow.

You know what? Many years later and I think the Tattoo and piercing industry is way better off as a result. I believe the shows garnered more interest in tattooing and customers went to get work done and were educated by the artists in shops. Sure there were some hicups but the dedicated people in those shops worked hard and its all to the good.

I am hopeful the same will be true for this show. Sure some people will run out to the nearest LFS to get a copperband butterfly for a 28 gallon nano, but the knowledgeable and enthusiastic employees, hobbyists and Gumbii's of the world will be there to help steer them in the right direction.

And BTW, their return customers are for tanks, not setups with fish. 99% of their business is for tanks and equipment that they are not supplying fish and water with... If they only sold complete running stocked systems, they would be out of business.,

god.. those tanks are NOT cool. I don't understand how anybody who's serious about reefing would think those tanks are cool. If you think those tanks are cool then I bet you shop at Petco/Petsmart for all your saltwater needs.

we can do without that kind of comment..... seriously. It doesn't matter where someone may shop or what someone may think is "cool". we can all benefit from not having this attitude.

Easy now, let's not get into a shouting match...
Mist, Except for the skateboard tank, I do think these tanks are cool, but that is all they are, only a couple of them would I consider practical.
Oh and FWIW, I have bought a couple items for my tank at Petsmart and Petco. There are a few things they have that LFS's don't. And their prices are usually better. But I have never bought livestock there...

Anybody notice that someone asked about the fish and seller said if they use the "Buy it Now" feature, they will include fish.
So if you buy it at that price, you can get a bucket of dead fish, too...

Amen! :the20man:

It is, what it is guys, way "over the top" tank designs that have that "wow" factor which captivates an audience.

Nothing wrong with that.

So I finally actually saw the show after reading everyone's bickering.. that telephone tank had to have been stocked w/ 50+ fish alone (mainly damsels)..... effin' fish Holocaust...

I would've rather watched them boiled all those fish in a large pot at once, cause at least that way I know they died a quick death rather than choking on their waster from poorly filter water and dying slowly by disease days following...

The only educational thing about the show is that he'll identify individual fish that he puts in the tank and which ones are venomous.... and he states how "acrylic actually clearer than glass".... that's about all I got...

sweet acrylic tanks though...

I sent a message to the seller about the fish that were in the tank and what happened to them. He replied
"[FONT=arial, sans-serif]The aquarium is now empty and ready for pick up. Fish were moved to our store. Use the "buy it now" and receive $500 in store credit to purchase the fish of you choice.

[FONT=arial, sans-serif]- bluereefaquatics"

Hahahaha, yeah right...
