So i woke earlier today for some odd reason, I still have another two hours before my alarm clock goes off. Went to use the bathroom and as I walk by my fish tank my socks got wet. Anyways, yesterday I forgot i dropped in a turbo snail inside my refugium to take care of a little hair algae growth. Long story short, he was stuck in my refugium drain and I ended up mopping and drying about 10 gallons of water. This happen about 4am and now im here to post another FAIL in Reefkeeping.

just leave the algae in the refugium...better it grows there then in ur tank...isnt that the idea of refugium? u want it full of algae...or if u want it gone dont use turbos..the few turbos i have do more damage then there worth...always knocking over stuff...and ive never had the problem, but ive heard of alot people complaining about them getting sucked into drains just like u said get rid of turbos

OMG everone is flooding lately lol! I had the same thing happen last week. Didnt realize my float switch for my ATO got stuck on a piece of LR that shifted and was stuck in the on position and my ATO kept slowly dumping into my sump. Needless to say around 1 pm (I work nights) I awoke to my 3 yo screaming water. Luckily the water didnt overflow over the sump but slowly leaked out of the float switch area (tightened up now), but I think thats what saved me as it would have kept filling. Man that was fun. I ended up removing 40 gallons of water and have just not gotten salinity back to normal. I did loose my Mollie to osmotic shock I am guessing but everyone else is fine. Man just when you think you get the hang of it you get nubbed. I guess just chalk it up as a learning experience.

Why don't you put a small screen over the intake between your fuge and sump? I have a turbo in mine for the same purposes, but my fuge has a large set of teeth that spills over to the return section so nothing really for a snail to get stuck in.

Sucks about the spill, again. Live and learn.

Hey I had the same thing happen last friday morning when I work up for work and found 30+ gallons on the floor of my house extension!!... Snail in the overflow drain!....

Can we make a club?.. Victims of Snail in the Overflow...

Or a relief fund... Victims of Snail in the Overflow Relief Fund... cause the aftermath looks like as if a tsunami went through your house.....

hahahaha

I can join the snail in the overflow club. i have a 300 gal with a 300 gal sump. luckily the noise woke me up. i only lost about 25 gal. lots of fun. i have a stainless screen around my overflow and a course sponge over the drain pipe. i guess i should have been reading this a lot sooner lol

I've had issues with a flooded floor too. It's such a pain. It's a new tank and I haven't figured out the settings for the skimmer yet. Every night, I think it's fixed. The next morning, I'm cleaning up a ton of water.... Eventually I'll get this right. ;)
