I have the Aqumaxx Star on my tank and I love it! It was super easy to set up. Very clean build, the sicce pump is efficient and quiet.

They recently became our best-selling calcium reactor line, edging out Korallin and beating the other brands by quite a wide margin. Calcium reactors are one of the more intimidating pieces of equipment to install, so it excites us to hear that setup was a breeze!

AquaMaxx Nano Star Calcium Reactor

What else do I need to get this thing up and running? About how much more money do I need to spend to get it up
Hi, BluRocket3. Thanks for your question and for visiting our forum. Here's a basic rundown of what you'd need:

... so ballpark $342.59.

Who cares the brand of the reactor it's the regulator that is important. As long as the reactor is thickly made it doesn't really do anything special. My corals look better than when dosing, ask Solitude.

+1. Brand doesn't matter.

2 things u need to look at.

1) brand of pump on the reactor
2) brand of CO2 regulator

All the reactor does, is hold ur media. Lol.

The Korallin Ca Rx uses an eheim. It's silent, and very efficient. That's what I use. Very consistent

Does your Eheim add heat? Both I the ones I've run at 77.5-79 degrees. Most aquarium pumps run in the mid to lower 70's. find it odd.

Thats one reason I got rid of my PM reactor, there was always CO2 built up at the top, also the reactor was a pain since it didnt have thumb screws like the Star does. The gaskets and even the pump was obsolete so whenever i had a small thing to fix it was $$$ to repair.

I think the reactor does make a difference in regards to longevity & maintenance. when looking at a reactor I try to think about if a seal cracks, how hard will it be to fix? Are there any fancy custom gaskets I will have to keep on hand? How expensive is it to change out the recirc pump? etc etc...

I agree the regulator keeps your dosing consistent so dont cheap out on it-
