to skim any more wet I think I need to lower the skimmer into the water more.

That is extremely dry, as I said earlier you definitely need to run wetter.

Okay will do. Just looked it up and it's a bit too shallow where the skimmer is placed right now. I'm gonna lower it in the sump and see what that does. That'll let me open up the outflow a little bit too. Right now it's almost closed.
