So Greg, in your opinion, should biopellets alone take care of phosphates if nitrate is where it needs to be (balanced?)? I've been using biopellets and get "undetectable" nitrates, but I use gfo to lower my phosphates. I'm guessing something is off balance?

It really depends. All systems are different. Food is your primary source of importing phosphate. Dry food tends to have higer phosphate levels than fresh/frozen. It's a balancing act. No one way is better than another. No two tanks will react the same. This is why I stress the importance in learning how they work so you have the knowledge to tweek when required.

Because every system is different, a persone that does not understand how they work can not advise a person who is having problems. One could have high phos and not nitrates, another could have high nitrates and low phos. These people may have totally different problems using the exact same pellets. These new pellets will not help people who have high nitrates but may work good for those that have high phos. However they will work no better than running a bit of GFO. Difference is once Phos comes down you can remove GFO but you don't have that option with the new pellets.
