My Tank Build

I currently have a Tek 6 bulb T5 lighting fixture, but there is just something I miss about halides; here's my dilemma, should keep my current fixture, trade for a T5/MH combo fixture, or try my hand at a DIY mod and remove two bulbs from my Tek and add a double-ended socket? I know that this question is very open ended and posses a ton of variables, but I value the opinion of my SCR family.

P. S. or simply mod the Tek by adding fans, and replacing my current ballast with IC660's?

MHs vs T5s or Both

Good question and like you said many answers, i like Mhs too but have seen many nice tanks with T5s. This build i went with MHs and LEDs still a month or so away from start up:(
It really comes down to what you like and if you chose DIY there is lot's of information to work with. :juggle:

You could always pull off two of the bulbs and convert them to LED's to get that shimmer effect. Then you will still that great color combination and growth.

I'd keep all 6 T5 bulbs and add a 3watt per bulb LED strip to add some shimmer. Chad from Coral Gazers sells these. This is what I'm planning on doing. This is just my opinion. Good luck.

I like the idea of the led strips, then maybe I'll pull the stick ballast and over drive the bulbs. I'm just not getting the coral coloration that I had with MH's.
