Hey Everyone,
It's been brought to my attention that this site doesn't get enough posts. I am sure the reason being is because of the chat box. I know the chat box is great because you can get your answers quick, but the bad part about is that it does not leave behind archives for new members to come and search for answers that have already been answered in the chat box. Unfortunately, there isn't a search function for the chat archives. So I need everybody's help on this, if we all start posting more, I believe it will benefit this forum in so many ways. Let me know what you guys think on this subject.
Thanks again
MikeChargers

P.S. I am not going to remove the chat box.

I don't really use the chat on this site as I don't feel as comfortable not knowing most of the members here. But usually when I watch it go by there are some good discussions going on about someone's system that I would appreciate being able to read if I don't happen to be online at the time of the chat. So I think it's a great idea to post these subjects as threads.....just don't have any idea how to change habits so it would happen :hmmmm::)

Yes I agree with Ed, I would love to read what you guys are chatting about in the chat box, and I hate looking through the chat archives. Don't leave us out on your discussion guys:(

I would agree with this. One of the best things about a board like this is being able to look through what people have posted and gain insight and knowledge from other people's experiences. A good example of this is my thread about my transition to a 300g tank from a 135g tank. I have very few responses on that thread. Now that may be because nobody cares about my tank, which is fine, or it may be because people aren't reading through the threads and posting their comments. Because I get virtually no response to my tank posts in that thread, I am more inclined to not continue to post stuff because nobody is reading it. Again, my feelings aren't hurt, but it is keeping me from continuing to share my particular experience in this build. Probably 90% of what I know about setting up and caring from a reef came from reading threads that people post sharing their experiences, good and bad. I have changed how I was planning on doing something many times because somebody read what I was planning and suggested a better way to do it. This is how we can help each other out.

Just my $0.05 worth.

I say kill the **** Child Box all together or have it up for couple hours per day in the evening.
Since you lifted the guest viewing limit, I was able to search and find few things on the board without logging on from work. Non members can benefit same way and register when they feel a need to.

I like the chat box, but yes, it detracts from the posting. Also, I find that this site loads a little slower than some other sites. Maybe some code optimization is in order?

Another though...is there code to make the chat box pop up for those who want it to? Sometimes I don't want to read the chatbox and only access the posts...but the chatbox is always there and it slows down my browsing, so I don't post much.

I know that the chat box does allow for a reef related and useful conversation once in a while but for the most part we are not using it for specific reef discussion we are just shooting the **** as it were. It also allows an immediate response if you are having a tank issue that needs to be resolved ASAP. Posting a topic and getting responses is no where near as quick

I say this site needs to worry about the "WHITE SCREEN " first and then try to wrestle with the chat box. I'm always checking up on this site every day and all day during the week and I find the chat box amusing compared to other sites. If it wasn't for my eavesdropping on the chat box i would give up on this site because of the "WHITE SCREEN". Im just saying.

Are you still having issues, I thought the problem was fixed? I know for a fact that it is the advertisement software I am using that was causing the problem, but everything should be ironed out now...Let me know if you still experience the problem. I might have to give up on the software and find a new one

Im only going to have the chatbox show up in the forum homepage and no where else. Hopefully this will help with the loading time.

looks like it was done on purpose by the coder of the program. You have to put up his copyright on both the forum and home page. The copyright have always been on the forum page but not the home..so that explains the white screen..stupid me should have read the instructions before installing it. It was a pita to figure out though!!!I pretty much tried everything for weeks...glad thats over and gone with:D

What's his email? I'll register it with spam mail account.

Got an idea to increase traffic on the board. Sponsor my beer and in return I'll add one post per one ounce. Depending on the beer, I could agree to 2 posts per 1 oz.

Think it over and get back to me with a case.

It's been a while(if ever?) since we've seen a North County frag swap so we figured we'd host one. It'll be next Sunday at 1:00 pm. The address is 512 W.California Ave. Ste #113 Vista CA 92083. All are welcome to attend. Feel free to call Jon at 760-509-6231 if you have any questions.

You guys can go to your user cp and go to edit option to turn off the chatbox if anybody doesn't want it on.

Btw, loading seems faster now that I restricted the chatbox to only the forum home
