Hey Everybody -
Just wanted to introduce myself: my name is Jimmy and have a 10 gallon setup. I'm still learning the hobby, AS I GO ALONG, which isn't necessarily the best way to learn, but its a way to learn none the less. In other words, if I get the terminology wrong, or not give the proper names...pardon me, as I am N0ob.

How I started:
My sister had a 60 gallon freshwater a few years back, so I had an idea of what needed to be done. So I decided, after all the reading, was a simple 10 gallon setup. I read all the pro's and con's of a 10 gallon, but price wise, it was in my budget. A local shop in Long Beach just opened up, so I went in and they were very nice. I ended up getting 1 live rock, 2 clown fish, and 1 firefish. The protein skimmer I purchased was a Rio Nano Skimmer (please hold all negative comments). This was back in January of this year.

3 months later, a death of one clownfish, and the addition of a diamond goby, orangetail damsel...my tank seems pretty decent.

As of now, I'm working on DIY LED lights. I did some tests and my first batch was great..kind of ghetto but worked.

welcome to the board...

good start... good thing that you know that it's very hard to maintain a nano tank... greatest advice is to get good RO water, good salt, and water change, water change, water change... you have to get a steady routine going...

Thanks - a quick google search will show that im all over the interNeTz =P

RO Water = REEF only, correct? I'm still learning the terminology. What is the difference, and how will this affect my fish?

Thanks guys!!

RO = Reverse Osmosis (like 25 cents a gallon at water store)

If you don't use RO water you might kill your fish...just saying

we all gotta start somewhere....welcome aboard

Nanos are tough and very limited....work on keeping it stabilized and healthy and budget for a bigger tank and you will be fine.....

60g get sold everyday under a 100 bucks with stand and light sometimes maybe even a sump....

looking good so far....and corals are usually easier to care for than fish

when you know what you are doing

dont get discouraged and keep on moving

Paul, you have a sic nano. Seriously, my husband and I are always telling people how impressed we were with the quality of your nano tank. How is the big tank coming along?

He's right, keep looking for a bigger tank. I got one 60 gallon with sump, uv sterilizer, pumps, lights, skimmer, coral, fish, rock, sand, for $75 + a wii

ahh age of Aquariums - very local. Ill try to make it sometime.

I'm really happy with the response i'm getting from this forum. Much appreciated!

I know this is a REEF forum vs a aquarium only forum, but just wondering if anyone has had experience with Orangetail Damsels?

not reef only. Pretty much saltwater tanks of all kinds. As others said, keep up on water changes, use only RO/di water to mix your salty, or top off your tank, keep track of waer params, as in a nano, things can hange rapidly andbe devastating. And lastly, don't be afraid to ask ANY question!

If it's a damsel then they're little demons lol
Yeah - unfortunately, it was the damsel. I've read that they can be a violent, but ive also read that it depends on the aquarium and the setup and it depends on the individual fish...

but the damsel bit/attaked my goby. Under his right eye he has what looks like internal bleeding...almost like a black eye. I've taken him out away from the tank....i wanna give it away...or possibly trade. Any takers?? =)
