Tinsel strength????? You had to post a chick comment
Well yes I know that aluminum isn't as strong as steel but not a significant difference, and it's far less corrosive and lighter weight. I have come to the conclusion that most people over-build stands in this country anyway so...

He said tinsel strength, not strength overall. Aluminum can be set up to be just as strong if not stronger but it lacks tinsel strength

Ugghhh why do you have to post such a man comment... I know he said tensile strength but that's what I'm saying the way people build a stand with aluminum doesn't even come close to exceeding it's tensile strength so it seems to me that it would be the better choice.

BTW, tinsel is what you put on a Christmas tree :D

No I'm not doing a metal stand cuz I have a husband that's good with wood :)
Just curious cuz I've been reading a lot of build threads on my LA forum and some guys here have used aluminum for their stand. I had never thought about it before but that got me thinking about how aluminum is lighter and less corrosive than steel and I had read about tensile strength etc and it wasn't a huge difference so I was trying to figure out why people don't use it more.

Hey sorry to interrupt but I guess we are being censored. So watch the Shennanigans!

There's this one newish guy (member) who is not cool at all and wants to make this really lame. Just thought I'd let ya know. I'm sure you'll figure it out real soon.

This post is not reef related in any way. We need a serious informative forum. Everyone knows reefing is not fun but serious business. The minute you start having fun is the minute is the minute I step in with my blue lights flashing to crush it

Shame. People don't realize that when the site is dead it's because none of these type of threads are active. You can see by how many times a thread was hit and how many people were on. Without "witty banter" the forum becomes stale.

Your flow isn't enough. The 6125's are strong and with a larger grill better. Buuuuuuuuuut, you need that random/choppy flow. Also Lil pumps like 6055's towards the side bottoms to keep the detritus in the water column. Other than that, "oh you bad!"

Larger grill?
Yeah I know I need random flow instead of just linear. I'm not sure what I'm gonna do about that yet...
So the 6125's are supposed to be 3,170 gph. Other than the linear flow issue, 2 6125's are gonna give me enough flow for a 8' tank?

Oh, another thing is the way the plumbing is set up, all the holes in the overflow boxes are being used as drains. (2x 1" & 2x 3/4") and there is a huge pipe that goes up the back and into the tank and splits off for returns. He did this to be able to get the full 3600gph following into the tank from the Reeflo Dart
