    Saving a Mandarin

So I picked up a half dead mandarin dragonette. This large male mandarin is completely emaciated, and was barely moving when the clerk netted it and put it in a specimen container. So I forked over the $20 hoping to save the fish or at least give it somewhat of a chance. My tank is small but...

Help please, lost a skimmer part!

The former socal tropical carries the atman pumps with the newer needle wheel impellers. At least that is where I got mine a 5- 6 months ago. I Think they are now called sexy corals but give them a call and see if they have the pump you need in stock

    Dr Tim's bio pellets

Those things look cool. I was watching the some youtube vids about them yesterday. Seems like a nice design and they have made it easy to change out the media with the ingenious tube within a tube concept.

    RLSS Skimmers

Eric, my tank is small a 40 breeder. I downgraded from a 70 cube. I definitely am using a skimmer that is "overrated" for my water volume but it seems to be skimming fine. It generates a nice head of foam and I empty the skimmer 1-2 times a week. Every review I have seen for the Octopus brand of...

    Dr Tim's bio pellets

I can't comment on that quite yet as my tank is extremely young and I am just starting to increase the amount of corals in the tank. The only positive I can mention as of now is the fact that my algae growth has slowed quite a bit.

    RLSS Skimmers

When it comes to skimmers I generally look for a couple things. A good review, ease of maintenance and cleaning (basically being able to break it down), energy efficiency, solid build quality, and a reliable pump. Out of these aspects, the only thing that is questionable about my SWC skimmer is...

    Dr Tim's bio pellets

Good to hear all the positive results of Dr. Tims. Glad I went that route. Since I'm seeing good results I guess I'll stick with them.

I did some research on them as I'm really intrigued by the DC pumps as of late. From the reviews I've read they seem to work very well. I did recall reading a thread about some minor issues with the pumps in a thread so apparently the manufacturers have addressed this problem and are releasing a...

    Biopellets-----week 2

Kyle same here, my chaeto is all but dead or dying and I only have a piece the size of a golf ball in the fuge. The stuff just does not want to grow. Lorenzo, since my fuge is running opposite my lighting, I have not noticed a drop in Ph. Thanks for the warning....I may be taking the fuge...

    Biopellets-----week 2

Kyle are you running GFO? From the literature I've come across most are reporting that PO4 reduction is minimal and adding GFO is somewhat necessary. Although I have a GFO reactor on standby, if possible I would not like to use it as its pricey for the media and just a overall hassle to change...

    Biopellets-----week 2

Mike, I'm using Dr. Tims, they seem on the small side when it comes to biopellets. As for the video, well see if I can get one up. I know their are some larger pellets from other manufacters but want to make sure I'm purchasing quality pellets. I'm thinking that larger pellets won't be tossed...

    Biopellets-----week 2

It's been two weeks since I put the JNS biopellet reactor online. So far so good....I think the reactor tumbles a little too rigorously but well see. I started off with about 1/3 of the dosage and it seems to be working. I have not tested the water for NO3 or PO4 but am basing it on observation...
